Etaera had actually been somewhat relieved when she’d heard that Tazer was heading out on his personal vessel. It wasn’t really that she disliked the man - quite the opposite in fact, as he she found him to be very amusing. But when they were investigating something, especially something like the anomalous readings that their sensors had picked up recently, it was frequently better that he was out of the way. Especially if any of the personnel on the Command Center who were investigating said issue were female. Fortunately, none of them had complained, yet, but she was certain that it was only a matter of time before he upset the wrong person.
“Sir, we’re seeing those odd readings again,” the Ensign over at the Operations station said.
“Alright, make sure you record everything,” Etaera said. “Divert everything we can to the sensors, let’s see if we can get something useful this time.” Somehow, she didn’t suspect that they would. The Talon had been chasing the sensor ghosts down for nearly a month now, and they still seemed to be no further along on things than they had been when they’d departed. They still weren’t entirely convinced of whether it was a naturally occurring phenomenon, or if it was created by an intelligent lifeform. There were arguments for both, and it was a hot debate amongst the station’s science crew, one that Etaera was wisely steering clear of.
“Perhaps we’ll actually get something useful this time,” she said with a sigh. She hated not knowing. It was one of the few things that truly frustrated her.
Settling back in her seat, she realized that it was probably going to be another long, relatively uneventful shift. She almost missed the chaotic first few days, with traitors running around the station, and parties to plan.
