To say that he was pissed, worried, and all-together frazzled as he entered his quarters would be describing Stetson's state-of-mind with no degree of accuracy at all; it would be like calling a Texas tornado a "kiss of a breeze upon one's cheek."
Winona was reaching a milestone; her first baby tooth was just starting to show, so Stetson, being a proud father, wanted to share the news with Gillian. Problem was, no one in Comms could contact the Talon, nor did they have any idea why not. Hell, they hadn't even been aware of the fact that they'd lost contact with the ship! Where was it? More importantly, where the hell was his wife?
"Griffon to Commander Richards," Stetson intoned. "Quick question. Have you lost the Talon?"
While he waited for a reply, knowing full well he wouldn't get one until the station's XO got his defecation coagulated, Stetson went into Winona's room. She slept there like the innocent she was, so cute, looking so much like her mother. Quietly, he leaned over and kissed her forehead. "Love you, little girl." Winona wiggled, opened her eyes and smiled at her papa, then fell right back to sleep. There's something special about her. It's as if she can understand what I'm saying and thinking at only 5 months old. She must have the Gift.
Turning, Stetson left the room and headed back to his desk. As he was sitting down, he noticed a PADD, propped up, a note attached. What in the . . . ? How'd this get here? Stetson wondered. Until now he'd never been concerned about the security of his quarters. Why should he? This was Flag Country, one of the most secure areas of the ship. Yet somehow, someone had come in, invaded HIS domain, endangered HIS daughter, and done so with impunity.
"Computer, identify all personnel who entered my cabin after I left."
"No one has entered during the period specified."
Stetson gulped. It took a lot to surprise him, but this definitely did. On top of incursion, whoever it was had altered the computer files. Either that person was a certified genius with computers or he had major juice.
Shaking his head, Stetson following the instructions in the note, turned on the PADD, and began to read.
