Robin was starting to believe in the value of keeping yourself safe, and by that he meant his mentality. He had just fought in a rather ferocious battle despite the fact that they hadn’t taken too much of a beating and it was relatively short. If a warrior were to stand against an army, taking on opponent at a time, he would eventually die no matter how skilled he was. Stress was a hidden killer, or so he heard from many and also from Charles and even though he didn’t feel quite stressed, even after a battle, he figured he should try to exercise this new idea and see how it went. Admittedly though the battle had certainly sparked an opposite reaction, he didn’t feel stressed at all but pumped with adrenaline flowing through his blood cells, ready to spurge out of his guts. Well maybe not that.
He wondered what Sig might think of those thoughts; he might start a little party but maybe not as Robin decided on where he was going to head off to, that place being the holodeck. He could practically hear Sig sighing and preparing the surgery bed. It was something Robin rolled his eyes at, for a little while now the pilot had been good at keeping from injuries, just a while ago he had entered and exited sickbay 3 times without an injury. Now that was a big feat on his part. He hadn’t bothered to stop by his quarters to get out of his uniform, he wanted to keep a hold onto the semi-rush for as long as possible and in case the Dkarans came back. After a ride in the lift and a few turns Robin found himself at his most used holodeck.
“Don’t go malfunctioning on me again.” Robin muttered to the console as he began to tap the buttons but hesitated as he considered what kind of program. Just what would be good for him right now? He wasn’t sure but lately he had been considering a new idea that was in all honesty, was completely stupid but Robin felt that elements of the idea had merit. He just hoped those merits didn’t turn out to be purple awards to replace his limbs. Entering the necessary schematics Robin passed through the opening doors to be greeted with darkness. Taking a few steps forward, the holodeck doors closed and in an instant, the room flashed with light.
His vision closed to block out the light but he could tell that he had died down through his eyelids, opening them he looked around at the scene. He was in a cave, its wall littered with fiery torches that flickered rapidly and wavered in response to the gentle breezes entering from deep tunnels circling the cavern. Those tunnels were not lit. The layout of the room was mostly circular except for where he stood now, shaped like a rectangle similar to a bridge to an arena. In the center of the cave was a smallish boulder and laid across it was a sword, a katana, its sleek shiny giving off an orangey hue from all the flickering torches surrounding it.
Robin walked towards the weapon, he never quite understood his own fascination with bladed weapons, probably a side effect of his obsession with Klingons as he grew up, that and being taught by a Klingon. Their code and honor was law, the ones with true bravery and loyalty in their hearts, they made a difference for their people. Though often that same honor blinded them to see such people, the pilot stepped in front of the boulder and examined the blade. Was there really any good in being able to utilize such a weapon? How often was he really going to be in a situation that required him to find some melee weapon and use it? Shaking his head of those thoughts, Robin stripped himself off the first jacket layer of his uniform and then unzipped the collar a little, placing the jacket on a nearby rock. The idea behind this program was that he was going to ‘re-learn’ one of his favorite martial arts form. He knew bits and pieces from many but only really learned karate, some Klingon arts and Keysi. Though his actions in combat never really reflected his knowledge, it was usually quite fast, wild and unpredictable but that was how Keysi worked in some ways, just one reason why he liked it so much. However the basis of re-learning would be a bit different, he would do so with a sword.
Using movements where you would only be using your fists or feet to defend yourself, it was certainly a unique idea but not one Robin felt would go too well but he was confident or just crazy enough to try it. Robin placed his hands on the grip of the katana, holding it firmly before letting one of his hands go and his other move to the right, the blade with it the steel became a sudden flurry of movement as Robin swung it in such a manner as to make it look like he was twirling a gymnastic stick ribbon.
Satisfied with the feel of it, Robin slowed down, using his fingers to bring the blade of the katana from upright to its tip pointing to the ground and brushing the sandy dirt of the cave. “Computer, freeze opponents upon activation…activate.” Three humans materialized within the room, their positions around the cave creating a triangle effect, one on the left, right and directly in front of Robin behind the boulder. The pilot brought his blade to bare upright once more and crouched to the ground, his left knee and right foot in the sand as well as both fists.
Robin bowed his head to the rock, opening his mouth and breathing in the artificial air that mimicked the dusty feel from within such a location, he remained still for a few long seconds before uttering the command to unfreeze the three men. Then Robin launched into action, rising to a standing position and swinging his blade arm to meet the punch of the guy on the right, the weight of the katana added extra power in Robin’s smash against the attacker’s wrist causing the man’s hand to change direction. Bringing his feet up Robin moved into a side step, rotating his body and tucking his blade towards his chest and stretching out his other arm to impact against the third guy’s face.
Not only did he receive the blow from Robin, he also hit himself with his own fist after it had been painfully diverted from the pilot’s fist, slapping himself as well as the Starfleet officer’s punch sending the man to the ground. The second guy that had spawned in front of Robin began to bend forwards in preparation to rugby tackle the pilot but Robin had seen the guy from his little spinning action and as soon his feet came to a stop, the pilot jumped forwards onto the rock and then again towards the left guy that was now in motion of following the 2nd guy but began to still himself when he saw Robin on the rock. Instead of attempting to move the first guy stood his ground and raised his hands to strike Robin in mid-air.
In this situation Robin would have likely just thrown himself at this guy or had jumped and attempt to smash both his fists against the guy’s face whilst in the air though his body did follow an attack similar to the latter but it was not his fist, but the bottom of the long hilt of his sword. Its handle gravitated into the guy’s head with bone-breaking force and Robin allowed his muscles to loosen, causing him to simply fall into the guy who looked as if he had been delivered a fatal blow. Robin landed on the guy, careful to keep his sword out of reach incase his head or other arm somehow fell across the blade. The guy below him had saved him from the fall and he was already in the process of standing up, he looked down at the guy, amazed the attack had worked but his distraction cost him a harsh kick into Robin’s spine, sending him sprawling forwards past the body in front of him and into the sand, his sword rolling from his hands.
“Ugh…” Robin grunted and moved to get up and was mid-way up when the arm of the last opponent, the one that had attempted to tackle Robin, wrapped his arm around the pilot’s neck, and used his other hand to pin Robin’s arm to his back so that Robin only had one arm to attempt to free himself with but the lack of breath was quickly diminishing his strength. The pilot’s entire body wingled and spammed in an attempt to break free but the struggle only brought him more pain. Forcing his eyes to stay open, he looked straight ahead into the wall of the cave. Biting his lip Robin gurgled as he kicked his feet from the ground, the guy riding on his back as the pilot charged right for the wall and with one last effort of strength with his free hand, managed to create an acceptable gap between the guy’s arm and Robin’s throat and bowed down in a flash, the momentum bringing his opponent sliding up his back and sending his head into the rock face of the wall. Robin gasped, feeling the guy’s grip on his throat lessen even more and immediately pushed his arm away and stepped away, stumbling a little himself and finding the edge of rock for support.
Robin’s free hand found his sore throat as he looked at the guy that had been strangling him who laid on the floor, not moving at all. The same was said for the guy Robin had hit in the head with his katana. The man Robin had struck was not ‘dead’ but looked completely motionless saved for the holographic animation of the guy’s chest breathing. Robin sighed and stepped away from the wall, well that wasn’t so bad… not quite what he had in mind. It was then Robin felt he was being watched and turned on the spot to see someone standing there, a cardassian woman… how long had she been standing? What a lovely greeting, watching someone beat up a bunch of people in a flame lit cave.
