It wasn't even remotely like her to do so, but standing in the middle of her quarters looking around her in disbelief, Ziana felt like she could quite easily burst into tears there and then.
She'd never thought of herself as a materialistic person until she thought of all the things that had disappeared, sucked away into the vacuum of space by the hull breach, or destroyed as they smashed to the floor.
Five years or more of things... gone out into space. She imagined PADDs and ornaments, floating in nothingness. Maybe one day they'd hit a spaceship's hull and cause a small dent.
Great, I'm inadvertently a litterer, too.
She crossed to the replicator and called up a dustpan and brush. At least the broken shards of bottles she could recycle; some use, at least, to come from all of the destruction. As she started sweeping, her mind wandered.
She knew Eilidh was with Cobus; she'd asked the computer immediately where she was and who she was with when she'd walked into the room and seen the mess. Zi wasn't about to ruin her date by bringing this mess into it; maybe she could even have the whole thing straight again before Eilidh came back? And then she'd never even have to know about it. Zi worried about her roommate sometimes; she seemed to have a lot troubling her, and Zi knew she'd do anything to lighten the load of worry that rested on her friend's shoulders if she could.
As she moved over to the replicator to dematerialise the first batch of broken bits and pieces, she realised she was short of a couple of larger items too; a small table and a chair for a start. She sighed. That was going to have to be a call to supply.
"Button to Cross," she said to the ceiling. "Adam, when you've got a minute can you pop to my quarters? I'm going to need to requisition some new furntiture. Thanks."
She looked at the nightstand where a dozen bottles had been.
And some hair dye.
