"And if you can't win when you're not doing anything wrong, where does that leave you?"
"It leaves you better off without him," Quin said succinctly. "Part of what makes a person a good match is that they want the same things from you as you want from them. It's easy to idealize someone as being perfect for you, but if they aren't willing to commit to you, then they can't be perfect." So many people labeled their partner - or intended partner - as "the one" and weren't willing to listen to reason otherwise.
"You start thinking about what bottles you're going to bring."
Quin grinned, "That's something I excel at," he said. He watched curiously as she began her work, all the while thinking of what he wanted to bring. Most women weren't fond of scotch and whiskey from what he'd seen, but brandy and amaretto were typically favorites. Then perhaps a good aged tequila. Tequila was the perfect way to celebrate or mourn the end of a relationship. It also had an impressive knack of getting women out of their clothing.
"I don't think I want to forget this lesson; I think it'll teach me a good deal."
"At the bare minimum, when you have something better, it will have allowed you to realize just how good you have it. Success is so much more gratifying when you've experienced failure before." So many people went through life trying their hardest to avoid failure, and those people couldn't fully appreciate success... at least not that Quin had seen. "When you find the person that is right for you, you'll look back at all this and laugh."
"So I assume you grew up on Earth?" He asked, trying to think of something a bit less painful to discuss. "I haven't spent a lot of time there, myself. It's something I mean to fix at some point."
