After being promoted and finishing his shift, Tyne had pretty much strutted the entire ship, looking at it with completely different eyes. It was one thing to be a Bridge Commander, but knowing he was now the Executive Officer was almost a high. There were congratulations all around and his facial muscles were starting to show the strain of smiling so much. Though there were no extra pips or insignias to show his new position, the way he carried himself had changed slightly. He had taken another step up the ladder, getting closer to that brass ring he knew he would have someday. Stepping onto the bridge, he didn't even attempt to wipe away the grin. They all knew and he thought it silly to hide his joy.
Commander Freeman, sporting a grin of his own as he had also been promoted to Bridge Commander in the wake of Tyne's exit from the position, stood from the big chair and extended a hand to the new XO. "Congratulations, Sir."
Tyne took the hand and shook it with relish. "The same to you," he chuckled.
After Tyne settled in the chair, Arthur read him in on what had occurred since Tyne had last visited the bridge. There wasn't a lot. A few reports about drunken shenanigans, but the crew had mostly been behaving themselves during their furlough. Some of the computer systems were down, compliments of an engineering high level diagnostic, and Tyne smiled. There were many times when he had taken 'vacation' but spent it happily stuck half inside a panel fixing something.
"Otherwise, everything's been pretty quiet," Freeman summed up.
"Going down to Etimon," Tyne asked.
Arthur smiled. "Thought I'd take in the Carnival."
"Enjoy," Tyne replied. Though he had been curious about the Carnival, he was reluctant to leave the ship, almost as if they would take it away from him if he stepped off the deck plating.
Pulling up report after report, he signed off on them. While many would think it a tedious task, Tyne was actually enjoying the new-found responsibility; the reports gave him an insight to the pulse of the ship. He glanced over at the operations officer. She was busily investigating a problem with the sensors. "Frowning like that will cause wrinkles," he joked.
