There had been two surprises waiting for Rychel when she got back to her quarters. The first had been the fact that she'd been assigned to help the Mae get their weapons systems online. The second was that she'd been put in charge of the team that would be handling the large majority of the Engineering tasks on the surface. She'd had to keep her delight to a minimum though, as she barely had enough time to prepare in time to get to the shuttle before it departed.
Despite the fact that she'd been relieved of duty while in Counseling, she'd manage to spend some time meeting with the new Chief Engineer. Obviously she'd been acquainted with Logan when he was the Assistant Chief, but it was completely different talking to him knowing that he was solely responsible for the progression of her career. Still, she was glad it wasn't someone new entirely, as at least Logan knew her before she had to be relieved of duty. Her biggest fear was not being taken seriously, of being judged because of what happened to her. But she knew now that nothing that had transpired was her fault. Bad things happened to good people, and there was little that anyone could do to prevent that.
After they’d landed, she’d lead Ziana and Diran to the cliffs, where they would be working on the weapons systems.
“Alright, these basically look like a simplified disruptor weapon,” she said, looking over the scans that had been taken by the Juliet while they were en route. “The tricky part is that they’re mounted on the side of this cliff.” Stepping forwards towards the edge, she looked down. A rush of vertigo threatened to overtake her, but she reminded herself quickly that they would be taking all the proper safety precautions while working on the disruptor arrays. Pulling out her tricorder, she scanned the nine disruptor arrays.
“Unfortunately, it looks like they’re mounted in the cliff too well for us to easily remove them, so I think we’re going to have to rappel down to them,” she said after another moment’s thought.
