He had not been able to stay in his quarters, the space brought too great an influx of memories that hurt too much to bear for the moment. Even Hyacinth was not helping though she seemed to be aware something was mentally hurting her owner that made him brood so much. He had to get out, he hated being confined, it strangled his muse and made him incredibly grumpy. But with the current circumstances... he doubted the feeling would pass quickly.
Cliff's hands were wrapped tightly as he punched the bag for the umpteenth time, not that he had bothered counting. It was a way to get rid of tension, to let his emotions out physically but that wasn't really working... it was no more effective than a pain killer. Christ, that doctor had not been kidding, he mused sullenly.
He knew it was only a matter of time till rumours were flying around, and a part of him remained indifferent but the other half cared and feared it. The bag sighed as he punched out again and after a few moments, he still the bag and rested his forehead against the material. Why was this even happening? Had he been a bachelor so long that he no longer understand the fine points of relationships and how they worked... He knew he had failed her. Her and the promise he had made to Joro.
Cliff just didn't know how to fix it.
The voices in his mind taunted at him again, the question of his ability, the question of age, all these things made him growl and start up on the bag again. It was not fair.
