"Of course. I trust you'll be able to find something appropriate for their digestion."
"Yes, Sir," Kane replied. He had already analyzed the contents of several Nolfian stomachs, so he had a general idea what kinds of foods were popular with the species.
"We're carnivores... we can only stomach few vegetable matter, none of which you can replicate with your technology."
"I'll take care of it. We can-"
"I find that peculiar. It sounded suspiciously like something that could help my crew or prevent further instances of chemical attacks on my fleet. I can't stress enough how much this means to my people... if this is a poison which can kill my brothers and sisters in a few moments then it won't be long before they start considering annihilating our people from the inside out. If i have the answer to an antidote in me, then you can pester your medical chief and have him or her examine me and soon."
Ouch! Kane wanted no part of this conflict. "I'll see to the food, General," he said, before scuttling back to Adam's side. "We have the 'go' to feed them." Leaning in, he said, "we'll have it sent down from the kitchen." There was no way in hell he was demonstrating a replicator to these beasts until they knew more about them. Leaving Adam for a few minutes, he walked away and contacted the kitchen. Returning, he addressed the room. "Food will be here soon."
He busied himself with tending to a small cut on a sandy-colored Nolfian. Minutes later, heaping trays were carried in by ten of the kitchen staff as well as pitchers of water, glasses, and plates. "Start slowly," Kane said to the room of Nolfians. "At least until you can figure out how your stomachs tolerate it with the medication you were given." He almost laughed out loud as most of them got up at once and hurried to the food.
One of the Nolfians, however, remained where he sat, near Hudson, who seemed to be frozen in place. What was going on there? He walked up to them. "Everything okay here?"
