"We are perhaps somewhat unconventional for a sentient race, But then that's like asking what's normal..."
Ruune considered her words, "Normality is a convention introduced by every race to make themselves feel superior to everything that is not them. It's a comfort mechanism at its core." That was only one side of the coin, it was alas not the most normal of answers and that in itself made him smile momentarially in his head.
Just like a regular animal, what wasn't them they percevied as something different, often a threat, an unknown and then even their own kin so what was normality then? Again, it was but one side of the coin and anyone could craft their own coin.
"My father used to say that each time he went off to sea."
He did? Ruune found that interesting but wasn't sure what to make of it beyond that, the part about the sea caught his attention also. He tried to imagine Kunama swimming, would a Nolfian be a strong swimmer? How did someone swim with all that fur?
"Never understood him as a pup... now... my heart grew fonder,"
Ruune would have liked to say that he understood many things as a child, more than the average child but even Hirogen with young minds were innocent for a small time. "The important thing, is that you remembered." Memories were the key, experience was a door to another day.
"I intend to,"
"Teach him well," Ruune nodded firmly, though did not know what that actually entailed. He had not taught someone else as he had been taught, by his brother's hands or his own.
"So... your kind is feudal? Always ready to out a rival if they think it strategically sound?"
"In a way, we jump on oppurtunity but we do not hunt each other. It is whoever gets to our prey first that keep to the chase but if they make a mistake, another group may take advantage of it and take the prize for themselves."
Ruune considered Kunama's earlier words, and the words of her people and the sword. Justice was the law, but whose law? The Hirogen way of life was to hunt and survive but the Alpha in his ultimate power had ordered an execution. Ruune had done what his people had done before, in a better age.
"It's never a wrong thing to want a different way..."
Ruune smiled, he already knew that. Otherwise he would not have done what he had done those many years ago. He had made that decision by his own free will.
"I think we'd all be, ah.... what's the word..."
Ruune had to admit, her expression was some amusing though not enough to warrant another smile from him though almost did so when she found the word she sought.
"Boring if we were all the same."
"We would all be dead." Ruune added, as he considered the evolution studies of various species and wished there was some record of Hirogens, what did they look like a hundred million years ago? Were they a more primal looking creature, did they walk on four legs or two, maybe even six.
"You've travelled a long distance... but I am glad we have met, Ruune. There is much... honour in you. Are you hungry?"
Ruune ignored the question, honour. Like his thoughts prior, it was not what just someone else thought but what you believed. Did he feel that he was honorable, did he have the 'normal' definition of it. That was a question to battle another day and considered the question.
"No," But she would have not actually asked him if she wasn't or didn't want to talk to him further, it was quite obvious. "But I will join you if you desire." He also wanted to talk to Kunama further.
