"Not that it'll allow me anymore leeway in your mind to have been affected by it, I'm sure."
That wasn't even the topic that Emmarie was referencing when she told Georgia that she took things to extreme, but she didn't bother to correct Georgia. It wasn't as though the woman was rational enough to listen to any argument Emmarie made. No, instead, it was though she listened to a soundtrack in her own mind, repeating a mantra of "Emmarie ruined your life" and selectively arguing with whatever sensible comments Emmarie made.
"Guess I'm more important to the universe than I realised."
"Your perception of my behavior is far from the truth of the reality of my behavior," Emmarie said. Perhaps Georgia was more self-confident than she'd initially thought, as it seemed as though the woman was convinced that her own subjective opinions were fact. **No, on second though, that's probably just delusion talking.**
"He's damn persuasive, isn't he?"
Emmarie had realized that whatever she said was going to be twisted from it's intended meaning. That was an occupational hazard of trying to deal with women, unfortunately. She had to admit that she was biased against others of her gender, but Georgia seemed to embody many of the female stereotypes. "Yes, yes he is, especially when he does that little trick with his tongue... I'm sure you know the one I'm talking about." A mischeivous grin found it's way to her face, and her arms crossed her chest. She was not longer interested in playing nice.
"Frankly, I couldn't care less whether you agree with me or not."
Emmarie said nothing. She knew that when Georgia was alone, she would inevitably think of the words Emmarie had said. And though for the moment she dismissed them as just lies spread by her detractor, Emmarie knew that at some point, a part of Georgia's psyche would wonder: was it really true?
"You have a nice day; enjoy knowing everything there is to know about everything and generally being right all the time. I'll go be loserish in a corner somewhere and mope pathetically about my sorry existence or something."
"Oh trust me, I know that's exactly what you'll be doing," Emmarie responded sweetly. "I guess that means William is free for the evening?" She twisted the knife a bit.
"Or whatever else you imagine I do with my days."
"Don't worry, darling, I'll send you an invitation to the baby shower!" Emmarie called out after her with over-the-top friendliness. Sometimes, it felt so incredibly good to be mean. She focused on the work she still had left to do with renewed vigor, occasionally stopping to laugh for a bit. "It's really a shame I won't be around to see the look on her face when she realizes she just went off on a full Lieutenant," she said with a bemused sigh. Oh well. She couldn't win at everything. She had a feeling that wasn't the last she would see of Georgia, and she did feel somewhat bad, if only because she wondered what Hunter would think about all that had transpired.
