The moment he had put the scope's focus on Rychel, Dakbar felt conflicted yet again. As he increased the magnification, he saw her troubled face, but it was quickly blocked by the body of Federov. For a moment, he almost put down the scope to go to her, but he raised it again, determined to see this through. From his high vantage point, he could see over the crowds and they parted nicely as soon as the guards showed up, leaving a perfect view of Desan's body. An odd feeling welled up inside of him when Rychel knelt by the man's side but he reminded himself that this had to be done. Desan was dangerous and too close. With him in the picture, there was the very real possibility that Rychel would tell him something. Even the smallest suspicion could tip the balance and end his mission.
"Live."
Dakbar squeezed his eyes shut, but it didn't block out the memory of his near death. As Rychel and Desan were transported away, Dakbar put down the scope and sat down in a nearby chair after closing the window. He had, after his episode with Reesa, considered just ending his life, doing it properly this time, but pride got in the way. This was his mission to see through, and only Klingons ended their lives when things got too hard. He threw away that option permanently. No matter what happened, he would complete this mission.
"Live."
Dakbar shouted a curse and raked his fingers along his bare scalp. The door chime got him out of the chair and he moved quickly to the door. A man walked in, sandy haired and average size.
"You saw," he asked the Cardassian.
Dakbar nodded and pulled a small container out of his pocket, which he flipped to the man who caught it easily.
Opening it, the man checked the contents, then plucked a data chip from the container and pocketed it separately. "I'll send it tonight, after the ruckus has died down." Without saying anything further, he smiled again, and exited the room. Dakbar remained there for several minutes more, before stepping out into the Etimonian sun and vanishing into the crowd.
End Dakbar
