Emmarie had passed out for a little over an hour, her body so tired from her time down on the planet that she essentially just collapsed. But after a time, the pain from her various cuts and bruises awakened her, and she reluctantly got dressed and headed down to Sickbay. And while she was there, in addition to getting patched up, she got news that she wasn’t expecting to hear for at least another week or so.
She was pregnant.
Although the research that she’d done had suggested that it would be 7-10 days before she knew anything, and Doctor Williams had confirmed that it was indeed true in human pregnancies, Starfleet had little information on the Orions. And there certainly wasn’t data for a half-human, half-Orion pregnancy. Most human males only encountered Orion slave women, who took measures to ensure that they did not conceive.
Williams couldn’t give her any solid estimates regarding how long she’d be pregnant for, or much of anything else. It was all just a matter of waiting and seeing what happened, and Sickbay intended upon keeping a very close eye on Emmarie. She’d thanked him, and resolved to follow up with Sig once he wasn’t occupied with other matters.
She knew what she needed to do now. After checking with the ship’s computer to see where Hunter’s quarters were, she headed for them. She hoped that he hadn’t decided to go check out the planet again. Taking a deep breath, she hit the chime, all the while debating in her head how to best give him the news.
Of course he knew of the possibility from their earlier chats. But there was a huge difference between knowing something was possible and knowing that it was true.
