“No, Morgan! You’re stronger than this, goddamnit! You can’t just give up! Not here! Not now!”
Sig wanted to scream in frustration. This was the worst part of the job, the part where he would lie awake, unable to sleep for weeks, running through everything he had done, second guessing himself, and always coming to the conclusion that he had done all that he could've done. It still didn't make it easier. "Cardiostimulator," he yelled at a medic, who flew into action. However, before he could even place it on her, Darby walked in. "What-" But the raised hand of the Q stopped him and he stepped aside. The caress of the hand of the omnipotent being on Morgan's face made Sig frown. What was he doing?
"You still have much to do. Don't make me regret this."
Suddenly, the monitors jumped to life, just as life was restored to the troubled woman on the biobed. Sig sucked in a breath. Where were you when Hannah died?! It was a selfish thought and one filled with utter anger. After a second, Sig shook it off for now and hurried to check Morgan's vital signs. Habot was doing the same and when Sig looked back to thank Darby, the Q was gone. "Morgan?" He rubbed her shoulder gently. Sig's legs were weak. What he had just seen went beyond all that he understood. Death was supposed to be final, yet Darby had snatched Morgan back from its brink with hardly any effort at all. The ramifications of the act were staggering and Sig felt sick to his stomach. Who was Darby to pick and choose whom to save? What gave him that right? Though Sig was ecstatic for Morgan, he felt a chill run up his spine.
