"Story old as time,"
Considering his interests and general occupation on board the vessel on which he lived, the line, albeit a little modified, did not go amiss by the African. At first it brought a thoughtful and rueful gaze but it turned into that of a bemused and understanding one. For the moment it seemed, he had found some solace with which he could gain some stability from. He sat a little straighter, which could be taken as another outward sign that although it could take some undefined time to heal, Cliff was finding a small but rock upon which to stand.
"I'm sure he wouldn't mind you taking Eddie off of his hands."
Cliff nodded and was ultimately glad that Eddie had been in good hands. Human's love affair with pets was one constant through history and the cute and cuddly kind seemed to take president amongst most. After all, birds as large as macaws weren't to everyone's taste. He hoped the bird would gain feeling of why Cliff was to bring Eddie home and would accept him for such a reason more strongly than she had been willing to in the past. Hyacinth was a fussy thing but Cliff knew fully well the strength of her affections.
"Thank you... I honestly though he had gone with her. I owe you much," he said before finding courage and strength within himself to move into a standing position, the movement jostling his creased shirt. Still, he felt a little better and he was glad for the adopted family that the ship provided. Communities were important, if they died then all was lost and the future wouldn't be so bright.
