"Ah, now I understand."
The relief on Adam's face showed how much he needed someone to understand. He felt like an idiot. After all, what man wouldn't want to be given what he had received from the oyster.
"I know you'll understand."
He was sure she did, but Adam couldn't help but feel guilty when he saw her sigh and her eyes betray her emotions. "Sorry," Adam said to Luminareth, his hand making a pathetic gesture halfway between a wave and a submissive palm-up motion.
"Ensign, I am in need of a cup of coffee. I heard they serve a mean cup in the conference room. Would you care to join me?"
Adam was sure this talk needed something stronger than coffee, but he didn't drink and who knew what would happen if he did. He'd probably give out his security codes or something. "Okay," he agreed.
"You are welcome to use the conference room. Let me know if you need my help. I'll be right here."
"Thanks." He followed until they were in the room, then he picked out where he would sit. It was kind of comforting to have a big, huge table between him and Diego. Humans, after all, loved their barriers. "I'm sorry," he apologized once again. "This is so embarrassing." Adam knew his father would tell him to "buck up" and just face it all like a man, but how could one do so if one hadn't ever fully 'become' a man? There were times when Adam thought he should have taken up his San Francisco friend's advice and just payed someone to get it over with.
With his hand on the chair he had chosen, he looked toward the small percolator before walking over to it and pouring a cup of coffee. If Doctor Diego recommended coffee, then he'd have the coffee. It smelled wonderful and he recalled Sig's similar pot that was always brewing in Sickbay. Maybe all medical people believed that coffee calmed the psyche or something.
Moving back to the chair, he sat down and put the cup on the table as he waited for Diego to settle in.
