The first thing to hit him as he beamed to the planets surface was the salty fragrance hanging in the air as the waves of the sea caressed the sandy shores. Although the purple hue of the ocean was far from what he was used to, Diran suddenly felt far more relaxed and at home than he had done in a long while. He had been in simulations of his home world many times, but there was always something slightly off about the experience that he couldn't quite put his finger on. There were some things that could not be replicated, no matter how far technology advanced. This wasn't his world, but the feeling of being here was more homely than he had felt in a long time.
As the afternoon sun blared down on the lonely beach, Diran stood in naught but a pair of tight fitting, navy swim shorts. After working so hard lately, it felt liberating to peel away the layers that had almost become like a second skin in his line of work. Of course, any further and it would be just his look for a member of the crew from either the Talon or starbase to beam down. Being caught skinny dipping would probably not be beneficial for his reputation or chances of promotion, although it would certainly keep the female officers and civilians gossiping for a good while!
The tide was almost right in now, leaving the far portion of the isolated beach in which he stood the only dry standing place in the immediate vicinity. Diran wriggled his toes a little in the damped sand, his last chance to do so before they were caught in the waters gentle embrace. He wondered what the beached that were a part of the Etimonian tourist trade were like. Perhaps he should take a look some time, but then there were obviously more people around, and he really wasn't a people person. He had tried of course, but socialising with non zaldans was still tricky. He was a lot better than he used to be, Starfleet training had seen to that, but he was still missing something.
Finally stepping into the approaching waters, he emitted a short gasp and a shiver ran down his spine at the coldness that exuded forth as it began to surround him. Despite the mid day sun, the sea was rather cold, but still felt somewhat comforting. The waters of Zald had been known to be colder still, even at this time of day, but to him this still felt right.
Diran paused as he listened to the gentle roar of the sea flooding in and mounting the waiting shore, before ebbing back out again, accepting itself back into the fold. It was almost as though it were actually breathing, and he closed his eyes as he continued forward, allowing his breath to sound in time his only companion out here. Yes, the beach was otherwise devoid of life signs, so the naked eye could see. It wasn't as if he had brought a tricorder with him or anything, in fact he was glad to be away from technology for a little while, allowed to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. His career was a dangerous one and there was no telling when these moments would be ones last. Live each moment as if it where your last, a phrase that he had heard spoken many times, also standing in as sound words of advice. There was every chance that he could be killed on the Talon's next mission, especially with being in the security track, so he may as well live a little while he had the chance.
Finally taking to the main part of the water, Diran dived under it's depths, relishing the feeling of being completely surrounded by it's cold embrace. Webbed digits easily parted the liquid matter as he held his breath and swam out to sea. It wasn't sensible to go too far out, even zaldans couldn't hold their breath forever, but for now the calmness gave little feeling of concern. This was the first time in a long time he had felt truly happy, and a rare smile crossed his usually stone like features.
