Cobus followed Adam out onto the surface of the moon. His first couple steps were a bit high and awkward as he adjusted his stride to the difference in gravity. Fortunately, this also meant that the supplies he carried felt much lighter than they had just seconds ago.
He pressed a button on his suit to activate its comm system. "Is everyone's comm system working okay? Go ahead and leave them open. Safety first," he added with a little lilt in his voice; it was one of those cliches they loved to beat into the heads of everyone at the academy, and in their current environment (or lack thereof), it was sort of a big deal.
This wasn't his first moonwalk, but he was still no more immune than Adam. He too looked out over their surroundings with a motivation that was purely aesthetic. In most ways, the view was worth the oppressive EV suit; it was mostly working in it that he he found upsetting. How were you supposed to get any work done when you couldn't use your mouth as a 3rd hand?
On his PADD he'd pulled up specs on the dish they were installing. It looked comically small in his gloved hand. Fortunately, the gloves were lightly magnetized to compensate for the lack of dexterity. Dropping your tools in low gravity conditions could get very awkward, very quickly. He knew this from personal experience.
"We'll work in pairs: Jaxa and Button, Cross with me." That would give them one engineer each, and pair the most experienced person with the least experienced. Poor moon, he thought, looking out toward a craggy old mining site. What did those mean people do to you?
