As Emmarie had entered the turbolift, the padd she carried with her at all times began to beep. “Stomach measurement time,” she said, sighing. “Oh well, I needed to get dressed anyhow.” Instead of requesting the lift take her to her own quarters, she specified Hunter’s. Fortunately, she’d gotten in the habit of keeping an extra uniform there.
Why were they doing a bioscan for the Captain? she wondered. It had appeared that his commbadge was still aboard the Talon. She shook away her wonderings. There were numerous reasons why he might have been separated from it and left the vessel. Perhaps he’d just forgotten.
Yeah... but generally if he forgot there would still be no need to do a bioscan on him. She sighed, trying to think of a good reason for that. Maybe he and Kinin had a fight, and he needed to leave the Talon to blow off a bit of steam. Not even she was falling for that.
Arriving at Hunter’s quarters a few moments later, the doors obediently parted to allow her entry. Before they’d even finished closing behind her, she’d removed her swimsuit and she went in the bathroom to hang it neatly up to dry. She quickly took care of her measurements, before tossing a few scattered empty coffee mugs into the replicator for recycling. Someone was caught up by the mission briefing notes, she thought, in that half-affectionate, half-beleaguered manner of a woman in love.
Heading into the bedroom, she stopped short as something shiny on the bed distracted her. “You were not here this morning,” she accused the offending object. “I made the bed.”
“Computer, location of Lieutenant Hunter?”
Lieutenant Hunter is not aboard the Talon.
“Has anyone entered his quarters since I left this morning?”
Negative.
“Well how th’ hell did you get there?”
Please restate your question.
“Belay that.” She walked over to the bed and picked up the device, which looked almost like a communicator, but not any design that she recognized.
She warred with herself for a moment. She’d found it in Hunter’s quarters, yes, but she was positive she’d never seen it before, and that he couldn’t have placed in there. The feeling of dread that had gripped her ever since she’d taken a look at the bioscans began to grow.
“You’re coming with me,” she told the badge, sitting it down. She could study it more on the bridge while she took a look at the logs. Grabbing a uniform from the closet, she dressed quickly before heading up to the bridge.
End
