"I was going to introduce myself as your Lounge Hostess of the Eagle's Nest on the Talon, but I can see you're busy with.. Whatever you're doing. Perhaps some other time."
He laughed as she quickly walked off. Maybe next time he would have a numbering system so that everyone who crowded around him could have a moment of his time. The sarcastic thought made him chuckle. There would be plenty of time to meet the hundreds of individuals. Right now, he simply wanted one last piece of freedom before donning the yoke of command. It was amazing how quickly he had been found out in the nightclub, even though he was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans. Though, it wasn't impossible to imagine that they had all been curious when his name crossed their inboxes. Looking him up on the computer would've been a natural impulse.
“I think you might have alienated the person aboard the Talon who will in the future supply your alcohol needs. This is perhaps contrary to your wishes.”
He looked over his shoulder in the direction in which Keira had exited. "Maybe," he said noncommittally. "Though I think she'd be smart enough not to refuse the Captain."
"Excuse me, what was this?"
The hapless Ensign was pointing at his empty glass and Kealan knew this could not end well. If there had been anything left in the glass, perhaps the man might have a chance of identifying the contents, but pointing to an empty glass would only cause mirth on the part of the bartender.
"You're serious? Um, no. We just assume everyone wants it real here, ya know?"
Kealan had been leaning against the bar, but he turned and faced the bartender. There was no way the man would have missed his announcement, so there was a pretty good chance he knew Kealan's identity. "Excuse me," he said, raising his finger in the air. The bartender glanced at him and Kealan smiled.
"Are you saying that you knowingly served a member of the Federation, a member who is currently in uniform, real alcohol? That you knowingly violated an Amendment of the Treaty of Starbase Gamma Etimon?" He looked into the air for a second. "Amendment..." Ah. "C, section 4.03." His eyes closed and the bartender fidgeted in place. "No intoxicating/debilitating substances shall be administered to an officer in uniform by any member/facility on Starbase Gamma Etimon without the authorization of an attending physician." His eyes opened and locked with the bartender's. "You're not a doctor, are you?" The guy shook his head. "I didn't think so." He leaned on his elbows, getting slightly closer to the man. "So here's what's going to happen. If he gave you any credits, you will refund them immediately. Then, you're going to not charge anyone from my crew for the rest of the day... unless you want me to bring this up with the Governor."
The man's eyes widened. What he had thought would be a good joke on the Ensign had blown up in his face. "No, no," he said. "Your terms are acceptable." Like hell.
Kealan patted Zakary on the shoulder. "No foul," he said. "Just make sure you shake it off before you get back to the ship."
