Georgie stared at her reflection in the mirror, eyeing critically the dress that she was wearing. It was the fifth she'd tried on; the other four were tossed carelessly onto her bed, waiting for her to recycle them later. Georgie didn't keep many outfits permanently in her wardrobe, she mostly replicated off duty clothing as and when she needed it, then saved the patterns and recycled them after. It made it much easier to keep her quarters a semblance of tidy.
It didn't help her choose an outfit for going out in, though. And so far, neither had any amount of staring at her reflection and sighing indecisively.
Shaking her head, she traipsed back over to the replicator again and changed some of the parameters. Take an inch off the hemline, certainly. She was supposed to be enjoying herself, after all. And change the shade; a deeper blue, something almost midnight in colour. Maybe more of a satin would be more appropriate; something that shimmered in the low light.
She made a couple more changes to the sleeve and neck lines, then hit the button. The dress materialised a moment later, and she grabbed it and took it back into the bedroom to change again. Tossing the last attempt on top of the others on the bed, she slipped into the new design and eyed herself in the mirror.
Well, this was definitely an improvement. Perhaps she just needed a necklace of some sort, something to draw attention to the sweetheart neckline...
She walked back into the lounge and took the opportunity to glance at her computer. No messages yet. Not that she had expected there to be, of course; the messages she had sent to her parents and her brother would take a while to get to their intended recipients, let alone be read and replied to. Still, a part of her wanted someone to wish her some congratulations. She'd considered sending a message to someone on the ship, but she wasn't really sure who to tell. Who could she tell, without them feeling she was just rubbing their noses in her success? She wasn't sure she had any of that kind of friend on the Talon, apart from her sister, and she hadn't yet decided whether to actually tell Ziana about her promotion today, or wait until tomorrow. Although she didn't doubt for a moment that Ziana would be pleased for her, the protective older sister in Georgia wanted Zi to have her own moment of glory, without having to share it. You never knew how many promotions you were going to get in your career; you deserved the chance to be the centre of attention for the first one.
