"Old habits."
"No worries," Sig said. "I did the same thing the first time, too."
"We don't know where we are, why we're here, or what's out there."
Sig's left eyebrow quirked minutely. C'mon, Cobus, you can do this.
"Always maintain line-of-sight with the person next to you. If you see anything useful or interesting, call out and the rest of us will come to you."
The Chief Engineer let them know they could depend on the others, which was comforting on many levels.
"This way."
Sig met Cobus' eyes briefly and nodded with a smile. The hard part was over. The first time commanding under such a lofty title was always hard, even moreso when lives were at stake. Here, they had no idea what was happening, making the tension even higher. Cobus had done a good job.
Moving out, Sig did as everyone else did, searched for answers. It would be easier if they had any sort of technology, even just a basic tricorder. What if this was all there was? What if they were just stuck here until they all died of thirst? There were horrific tales told throughout time of castaways who had turned on each other, killing friends and family members, so that they could survive. Sig already knew what he would do in that situation. He only hoped his Norwegian flesh would feed them until the others could find a way home.
"Um, are you seeing what I'm seeing?"
It was a welcome statement, tearing Sig away from the morbid thoughts. Jogging back down the hill, he stopped in front of a floating taco. "I see it," he said.
"Take the taco."
Sig's body leaned forward slightly in anticipation of Oliver's next move.
