One of the things about being a doctor was that you could never escape the certain understanding of just what your body needed to be completely healthy. This occasionally led to quite annoying interludes: for instance, one simply couldn't justify a second piece of cake, and there was no excuse for staying up past 0100, and there was very, very little one could do to get out of a proper exercise regimen.
Well, you could get out of it. And you could make poor choices. But Pat had always observed that those doctors who tried were generally the worst sort. And so, in pursuit of a good career and better health, here she was. In the gym.
Taking a deep breath, she began to stretch, working a kink out of her neck that had persistently refused to budge all day during her shift. That was the annoying thing about standing up so much; your body got into habits, and then adamantly insisted upon staying in them, and one of the habits was increasingly 'getting into strange positions and then sticking'. One of the side-effects of not being twenty-one anymore, she supposed.
She set out at a slow trot around the course that circled some of the equipment, taking it slow to start out. No sense in expending all her energy at once, after all; that was almost as stupid as not exercising at all... pushing the stream of medical advice to the back of her mind, she focused on putting one foot ahead of the other, pumping her arms and enjoying the feel of almost-wind on her face, the impact of her feet hitting the deck, and the general goodness of getting to stretch her muscles.
