Hunter gasped for air and clawed at the ground, then rolled over and checked the indicator on the inside of his EVA helmet. The systems were dead, the readings dark, the visor fogged by his breath. He could smell the odors of what he had eaten last, which wasn't a good sign. From all indications, no air was circulating. His eyebrows went up, as he realized why the air had smelled funny earlier. Looking around, he saw the forms of the rest of the team.
He did a quick check and was glad to see that the genocide device was indeed gone, beamed up before they had fallen. Knowing he probably didn't have much air left, he did as Grace had done in dreamland, and removed the helmet. He then began to systematically remove the EVA suit from himself and the others who were lying where they had dropped. All their equipment was also dead.
"This was all a dream?" Shaking his head, he knew that wasn't quite right, but knew how to end it. "Void the mind," he muttered. Tapping his combadge, he attempted to reach the Talon, but there was no response. Whatever had caused the away team to fall must also have affected the ship, if it was even still in orbit. Removing his badge, he smacked it several times as men always do when something doesn't work, then tried it again. This time, though, there was a satisfying sound when he tapped it. The badge still had power, it had just needed a good jolt, which gave him an idea.
He opened up Georgia's kit and rummaged around in it, not caring where he was throwing things on the ground, until he found what he needed. Moving over to Grace's body, he picked up her tricorder and pried open the back of it. Sitting cross-legged on the ground, he slowly made a connection between the tricorder and the combadge. As he jump-started the tricorder, he laughed, wondering if he could get engineering credits for his actions.
Finally able to get some real data, he scanned the fallen crew. Their neural activity was off the charts, but one thing in particular caught his eye. "Where's Sig when I need him," he muttered. Shrugging, he searched the area until he found a small med kit. Taking a breath, he removed a tiny vial and inserted it into the empty hypospray. "This better work," he said to no one in particular. Whom to choose, though? He could, actually, end up killing the one he chose. The candidate was perfectly clear. Luis. If they were to wake the others, he would need to do it with a doctor present. So, the doctor was the guinea pig.
Hunter pressed the hypospray to Luis' neck and activated the medical device. The soft hiss sounded particularly sinister as it sped the liquid into the doctor's system. Hunter wasn't administering a sedative, he was sending the man into near brain death.
After several seconds, Hunter put another vial into a second hypospray device and pressed it onto Luis' skin. "Time to wake up," he said as he waited, hoping it would have the necessary effect. He checked the neural activity with the tricorder and nodded. It was working...
