His awakening was not instantaneous and when he finally managed to claw his brain from the darkness, he lay there on the floor of the temporary Sickbay for an even longer time trying to make sense of what had happened. He felt exhausted and there was something not quite right with his left arm, but he knew he had to get up and get the others to safety.
Pulling his large frame up off of the floor seemed to take forever and his heart was pounding with the effort. Sig leaned against a biobed as he caught his breath and realized what was happening. "Damn," he muttered. Already weakened by the events on Aquira, his heart was protesting the shock of the abyss. He moved over to the counter and readied a hypospray, then applied it to his own neck. The chemicals flooded into his body, staving off the damage to the delicate cardiac tissue for now.
That done, he looked around the room as it took effect. All the other officers were there, each of them lying in uncomfortable positions where they had dropped. Cobus was still in the surgery suite, a sandwich on the floor where he remained slumped to the side from his seated position.
Sickbay was dim, with emergency lights giving it a haunted illumination. Grabbing a tricorder, Sig sighed as he noticed it was not functioning. Some equipment in the room blinked with a notification that it had been rebooted recently, but other instrumentation was dark, without power. He moved from officer to officer, checking their vital signs old-school. As he reached Emmarie, he realized that she had not been with them on the dull landscape and a theory was beginning to form. He needed Cobus, but the disappearance of the man would most likely cause increased fear from the others. However, it was a chance he had to take. First Cobus, then Nila. If what he suspected was going to be true, he would need her skills.
Cautiously, he entered the surgery suite and walked a wide arc around the device that had caused them so much trouble. It seemed inactive, but he was not about to take any chances. Grabbing Cobus under the arms, the CMO dragged him out of the room. Halfway to his destination, he dropped him with the effort. Wiping the sweat from his increasingly graying face, he let Cobus remain where he lay. Sig shook his head and grabbed for a nearby table as his other hand clutched his chest. "Not yet," he grumbled. Fumbling for the hypospray in his pocket, he almost dropped it before applying it once again to his own neck.
Minutes later, he was kneeling next to Cobus with some equipment by his side. With the application of two hyposprays to the man, it shouldn't be long before he woke. Hopefully. Sig then moved over to Nila and did the same to her. "Welcome to the Talon," he said sarcastically. As he waited for them to revive, he attempted to contact the Bridge without success. Either the comm wasn't working, or no one was awake to receive it.
