Thankfully the return trip to the ship proved uneventful. Dakbar behaved himself, and it was obvious that he knew the jig was up. Stetson anticipated that Dakbar would come clean; after all, it would be in the man's best interests and Stetson would make that abundantly clear to him. When they got to the brig, Stetson put Dakbar in one of the cells, removed the man's restraints and activated the field. Grabbing a chair and his PADD, Stetson sat outside the cell and started talking.
"I can't abide a traitor, Dakbar; no one can. You took an oath when you entered the Academy and another when you graduated. You gave your word that you'd protect and defend the Federation, whatever the personal cost. You were given the Federation's trust. On top of that, you chose the career path of Security and were given another level of trust, a higher level. You broke those trusts. You betrayed yourself, me, this crew, the Talon, and the Federation as a whole. Now I am going to find out why."
Activating his PADD, he began to detail Dakbar's actions, including a synopsis of some of the evidence against him. "You've been a busy man." Stetson noted, taking a moment away from his reading. "There's more, but then you already know that, and I'm sure there are other things that we've yet to find out, but we will find them out, that much is certain."
He shook his head. "I have to tell you, that 'I'm a Cadet at the Academy' declaration you tried to feed me before was quite intriguing. I just can't wait to hear what was behind that piece of fiction."
He paused, staring menacingly at Dakbar. "You're Security. You know what means and methods we can, and will, use to get to the truth, and you know that some aren't particularly pleasant. You have first-hand knowledge that they work. Personally, I'm so pissed at you that I'd feel no compunction using some others that are no longer 'allowed,' but I take my oath seriously so I likely won't."
He leaned forward. "So, we're once again back to choices. You can either cooperate, come clean and tell us everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, regarding you actions - what you were tasked to do, to learn, to whom you gave this information, and everything else along those lines - and start telling us right now. Do that and perhaps your punishment will not be as severe as it can be. If, on the other hand, you choose NOT to be forthright with us, then I'll do everything in my power to ensure that you will be given the maximum and most severe sentence the Federation can give."
Leaning back, he stated one last thing. "This offer has an expiration of five minutes, and the time starts now."
As Stetson waited, he reviewed the communications he'd received while they were in the gray space. As he did, his attention was caught by one message from SGE regarding Morgan. "What the . . . ?"
TAG: Dakbar, any.
