They had ditched their suits except for the the grav boots in the same airlock he had gotten his suit, only now it too was without lights it still had gravity which was rather nice even the slight exposure to zero G you get in a suit can still be real pain in the ass. He smiled to himself about Siobhan's magic wands quip back on the space dock, it was a good one and sometimes it seemed they needed them with impatience of CO's.
After the struggled out of the suits He quickly took a PADD from the airlock and brought up a map leading them to the computer core it didn't help the lights were out so he had grabbed a pair of flash lights and handed one to Siobhan.
He went over the map in his mind while they both made sure they had everything they could get they were relying on Seia for the parts that would be necessary to modify the shields to emit metaphasic shielding it was the easiest of processes.
Leading them through the corridors he was confronted by broken down scared civilians and few Starfleet crew most of whom only needed a good get up and go or something to do. He hadn't noticed it until they were getting onto the last lift that it was colder than he remembered.
Turning to her as the lift went up. "I'm not insane am I? It is colder right now?" he hadn't been imaging it he hoped that's why he was asking.
The lift soon reached the bottom of the core on deck twenty they needed to go up to the next deck from memory. "It seems it doesn't want to go all the way, we'll have to use the service ladders." He said, as the turned the flash light off. Lights were on and gravity it was still colder but a little less probably due to the computers systems.
He found the tube that went to the junction where they would have to install the metaphasic shields. He released the locking pins with his code he had typed it in just to be sure in case the computer was still having the hiccups. Crawling through the tube they reached the junction, where you could probably crouch.
Turning as Siobhan got into the space he didn't have the happiest of looks on his face. Placing the PADD down he went through it before he managed to combine what he knew and the hugely inadequate manual on it into steps that always made it a little easier. He heard more climbing and it wasn't Seia but they had the parts they needed.
The Officer identified himself. "Ensign James Grey Sirs." Grey said as his finally made his way into the junction. "The chief needed Seia with another team so He sent me to deliver the parts but I'm going to be needed elsewhere." Nodding as the ensign slid the boxes loudly towards them. "Alright tell the chief we will try to contact him or the command centre once we are finished here." The ensign nodded and headed off down the corridor not before looking closely at Siobhan.
Matthew knew the leer of the engineer far to well and was often guilty of it himself but this was a little more important than getting a lay, was his thought train not that she wasn't good looking he probably knew more about her than the Ensign at this point in time not that he was interested in a date any time time soon.
He opened his kit and began to remove the panels when his badge decided now was the time to emit a loud screech. His mind cleared as the same badge conveyed a slightly broken message to them.
//"Capta-- Raal to all Engineeri-- Teams. I need an imme--iate statu-- report on your progress. Have shield emit-- surrounding the ---puter core and the stat-- armaments been modified to emit metapha-- shieldings? --nother --ME is imminent."//
'great we are already being shoved in the waste compactor.' He thought before his thoughts went that probably meant another flare, which was not good even if the core and armaments had been shielded a progressive systems failure could still occur but was statistically close to impossible provided the core was shielded.
Matthew brow furrowed as he picked up the speed as he removed all the pannels he would need to with the help of his tools since these were actually secured to the station with more than locking pins.
"We need to hurry go over the PADD." He motioned his head in its direction on the deck. "That was the hurry up call we didn't want or need." He said to her. He tapped his badge it gave a confused reply he wasn't overly fond of the computer at this point so he tried again and got a more clear but not completely good response.
He was going to keep this short. "Howe to Command centre we have only just be able to start the work on modify the shields for the primary computer core, how long do we have?" He replied before tapping his badge off. "We need to hit this at warp 9." He said sternly as he reached over and dragged the emitter coil over he quickly pulled out his tricorder to scan it, it was properly polarized as he had specified. That meant people down there were paying attention.
Getting it near the other emitter coil he begun to remove the old one. This was turning into one hell of a bad day.
