With the Talon arriving at SGE anytime now, Kinin had received the order to sign off on the departing crew. Usually, it was Stetson's job, but he was currently embroiled in finishing up his report about a million other things, a task she was glad was not hers. She wanted to be on the bridge when the Talon arrived back home, but she knew she had to trust her crew to do the job in her absence. Still, it irked her not to know why they had lost touch with the station. First thing, though, she had to finish the paperwork. Sometimes she missed the days when she was just an Ensign.
The names scrolled on the PADD's screen; the list was long. Many had applied to leave after grayland, others had tried to get over what had happened but, after Peleb, found they still couldn't deal with it. Others had family issues, promotions to other ships, stations, or planets, while a few more simply gave up their commission without explanation. There were a few transfers of the disciplinary kind, most notably Lawson's insubordination and attitude. Kinin shook her head as she read his file and signed off on it.
It was all standard procedure to ensure that security had no further issues or comments about the departed crewmember. Kinin took the time on several of them to add a personal note of recommendation. She knew many would be missed and their absence heavily felt. Klingons held tight to their clan and several of the departed had touched her life in a variety of ways.
Putting the PADD on the small table next to the couch, she watched the waterfall, imagining each drop to be a member of Starfleet, tumbling down, hoping to land safely, where they would mix together until, one by one, they evaporated into the universe.
