It was strange how you could miss someone so much despite the fact that you hadn't really been away all that long. She still had access to his quarters and she decided she'd rather sit in his place than hers...hers just felt lonely and weird. It was empty and pathetically lifeless. She hated it already. It felt nice to be back in his quarters, it felt a little more like home. Was that screwed up? He was the only person that could read her racing thoughts, that could make them seem like sensible logical thought processes when they weren't. Eilidh had always felt like her life was running on borrowed time, that the happiness she had found away from earth and with Starfleet was
on loan and at any point the bank would show up wanting repayment.
She picked up his shirt, held it to her chest, hugged it and breathed him in. Smelled like him, like his aftershave...that sounded strange. She had never felt this kinda love, the love that made you feel strong instead of terrified, like you could do anything. This was their time, they had created something beautiful like a supernova, turned into giants and he was the sun in the middle of the black out. Eilidh couldn't believe how lucky she was to find someone that held the sky up for her, someone to tame volcanoes with...to drink an ocean dry with.
Eilidh was just glad she had met him when it wasn't too late, when one of them hadn't settled for someone else. Everything was magic with him, it was like being chained to a comet and Eilidh loved every damn second of it. She smiled to herself before folding his shirt up and laying it neatly down on the couch...because that was what she did...she tidied his room and tried to sneak the little feminine girl touches in when he had his back turned. Eilidh wasn't sure if he even noticed or not. Not that it actually mattered.
For the first time in her life, she was waiting of her own free will instead of a feeling of duty or force. It might just have been the most free she had ever felt in her life as well.
