Kealan yawned and rubbed his hands over his face. He had been sitting in the big chair far longer than he should have, but the away team on Ribeniam was due back soon and he wanted to see this thing through. It had been a trying month, full of negotiations that included many ups and downs and Kealan was itching to shuck off the diplomatic coat. The Y'angdar had been returned to Gimund about twenty days ago, but their "Captain" had stayed behind on SGE to finish up the talks. Truth be told, Kealan wasn't so sure about their prospects in the Therys Coalition. Still, it was good to know that the Y'angdar leader, who assured them all that he would have a real name the next time they met, was returned to his people. Hopefully, he wouldn't name himself Talon or Liz or some other name he heard while away.
Looking ahead, it was odd not to see Lieutenant Robin Star at the helm, but the Chief of Flight Operations was the chosen pilot for the away mission. Instead, the back of @aurora kept him occupied as the light danced in a blue sheen over her hair as she worked.
"Away team reports that they have been invited to dine with the Ea'n'Dra," the communications officer announced.
Kealan suppressed a groan. "Give them leave to do so," he replied and hoped that his disappointment wouldn't be readily apparent in his voice. Lieutenant Eden Nivans and @mikoyo could handle watching the team and making sure they didn't do anything stupid. Besides, @kingshrykull was down there, too. With an Assistant Chief in the mix, no one would probably be so inclined as to cause trouble. It had been a simple mission. The Ea'n'Dra were friends of the Y'angdar, though only recently, and were more developed in their technology. Halsey was there to make sure that the Y'angdar's rudimentary technology could talk with that of the Ea'nDra, so that the two species could work together.
He glanced to the empty chair that should be occupying the backside of his XO, but knew there was little reason for the man to be on the bridge. They were just orbiting the planet. Nothing special to see at the moment. As he sat, bored, he looked over the list of away team members. @xeira was getting to stretch her legs, as was @nila. Kealan knew Cobus would have jumped at the chance, but Doctor Ericson advised against it. The man's platelet levels had only just recovered after his exposure to the radiation received from that Y'angdar stone.
"Captain, I'm picking up a very faint distress signal," the woman interrupted.
"Location?"
She tapped her fingers on her console. "That's odd." Glancing over at the science officer, she beckoned the man over. He studied the data, and frowned. "Could be a small probe or a life pod?" He turned to the Captain. "Sensors aren't picking up anything there. We need to get closer."
Kealan nodded. "Send word to the away team that we're responding to a distress signal." He hoped their meal with the Ea'n'Dra would still be going on by the time the Talon was done. "Give the coordinates to the helm, proceed when ready."
Maybe this wasn't going to be such a boring day after all...
Tag @aurora, Any who want to be on the bridge
1. The Ea'n'Dra are humanoid, with long, flowing hair down to their knees, tied back in every manner of style imaginable. They have a subtle golden sheen to their skin, with very pale gray eyes. They are easily understood, their language already in the database, and are well spoken. They prefer not to wear anything on their feet and their toenails are elaborately decorated.
2. Those of you mentioned in the above as being on the away team have been selected because we know you can hold your own in an active plot. Please don't disappoint. Your role in this is going to be VERY important as we go along. If you don't feel you will be able to do so, please let the admin team know as soon as possible.
