(OOC, Quin is in a small, hole-in-the-wall sort of shady gambling establishment)
His eyes were blurry and bloodshot. Sweat was beading on his brow as he studied the game board. The weight of the gold-pressed latinum in his pocket was a tangible reminder of why he kept playing. He played late into the evening, getting a mere few hours rest before putting on his uniform and going to his duty station, or meeting up with whoever was tending Ra’Tok and Dinah. The latinum was his key. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do when he had enough, but he intended upon finding something to do… anything that would allow him to be the sort of man who Ahska would want to be with.
Cards were shuffled. Game pieces moved. Mental computations were done with speed and precision that would rival the most powerful supercomputers at Memory Alpha.
57% They weren’t bad bad odds, all things considered, but given the strips of latinum Quin had already wagered on the table, he would have preferred better.
“Double or nothing?” The Ferengi asked, leering over the table at Quin. His beady eyes drifted down to the Trill-hybrid’s pants, where he knew there were more strips of latinum left.
Quin shook his head. “You’re not gonna tempt me, not again,” he said. At first, the Ferengi had managed to get the best of him. Now he was learning.
“Fair enough.” The Ferengi turned over three cards. Quin examined the symbols, his heart beginning to race. Dice were rolled. Game tokens moved around a board. Quin counted and double counted spaces. The silver token representing him ended up on the board, on a spot marked with a 3D holoimage of a strip of latinum. The Ferengi opened the respective envelope, sliding it’s contents face up on the table to avoid complaints of cheating.
Quin’s eyes opened wide.
“I should have gone for double.”
