The Kestrel was far from being a shuttle, but the Fleet Captain didn't have to know that. The Captain's yacht was more like a small starship, capable of ripping through the Fleet with its weaponry and extreme maneuverability. Asking it to carry the crew from point A to point B was like asking a Klingon to hold an egg, it just didn't make sense. Still, it made sense to Kealan. The Kestrel was undamaged by the impact or the subsequent attacks. It had full power including shields, weapons and, most importantly, engines. Inside, it also contained a rather skilled technical officer. Glancing at Liz as he settled into his seat, he nodded once, before turning and facing front. "Slow and casual, Helm," he instructed Mei. "Nothing fancy. Let's not give them any reason to be alarmed."
As they flew toward the Fleet, Kealan got a closer view of the ships. They had scorch marks on the sides, evidence that this was not their first encounter with another space faring species. "Interesting," he muttered as they approached their destination.
"Commander, prepare your messaging sequence," he said to Liz as they slowed and got ready to dock with the main ship. He tapped on the console in front of him, contacting the Fleet Captain.
"Your shuttle is larger than the one you sent to the planet, Captain Kealan Monroe," came the initial reply.
"You left us with no choice," Kealan replied calmly. "Your attack damaged systems that would have launched the smaller shuttles."
"You are not alone."
"Ensuring my safety," Kealan said. "You would do the same, I'm sure."
There was a long pause. "You will disembark with only one of your officers and your shuttle will remain docked in our bay until this is over."
It was good that there was no visual, only audio, as Kealan didn't have to hide the smile that formed on his face. "Of course," he replied.
"Docking instructions will be sent shortly."
The link ended and Kealan turned in his chair. "Okay," he said. "The initial communications when we first started this mission included extensive data on their systems so that we could work on getting them set up with the Y'angdar technology. Use it discreetly. Despite their posturing and the impressive shield technology, they are nowhere close to what we have. If you can get into their systems, find a way to bring those shields down so that Talon can get out of here." He took in breath and released it slowly as the docking instructions were received and followed.
"Jenison," he said to Alyssa when the time came to leave. "I hope you don't come to regret your offer."
The door slid open and two aliens entered, armed to the teeth. Kealan resisted the urge to roll his eyes. They balked slightly at the sight of Liz. "Identify," the taller alien said.
"Lieutenant Elizabeth Sur'Shess, security." He jerked his head in Alyssa's direction. "Lieutenant Alyssa Jenison, also security. And our pilot, Lieutenant Junior Grade Aurora Fang."
The man shook his head and walked up to Liz, pointing at her ridged forehead. "No. Identify."
"The result of a fight with a man who got in her face...kind of like what you are doing now," Kealan replied. "I believe the guy didn't survive."
The guard took a step back and gripped his weapon tightly. "She will not join you."
"No, of course not. Jenison will."
The alien found this acceptable. "Come then," he said. "We will show you to your...quarters."
That didn't sound good. He walked down the ramp and into the bay, which he happily discovered had no physical door, but a forcefield holding the atmosphere in. Good to know.
Once they were down on the deck, the guards stopped them. "Weapons," one of them said, holding out his hand to accept them. Kealan handed over his phaser, which Mei had handed out back on the Bridge before they had left the Talon, and he nodded at Alyssa to do the same. It hadn't escaped his knowledge that Stetson's team often had defensive items hidden on their person, so he knew she was in no means disarmed.
They were lead away, a guard in front and a guard taking up the rear, and paraded through the ship. Kealan was sure they were not taking the most direct route, but rather a journey through the Fleet Captain's ship that would put them on display to the most number of individuals. This was a symbol, an action that told Kealan that the guy had something to prove. After at least half an hour of travel, they stepped into a lift and Kealan smiled at one of the guards. "Thanks for the tour."
The guard just glared at him and gestured for him to step out of the lift as the doors opened. Another short walk and they found themselves in a rather nondescript alcove in front of a room that looked similar to one of the Talon's cells in the Brig. "Comfy," Kealan muttered. As soon as he and Alyssa were inside, a forcefield went up.
"There is a circle on the wall," the guard said. "Touch that if you need anything."
"Right." Kealan sat down on one of the long white benches and put his hands behind his head, leaning against the wall. "So," he said to Alyssa. "You married?"
