The route back to the Pi through the corridors and lifts had been a relatively smooth process. It seemed a majority had followed protocol and got to their allocated safety zones in light of the emergency. It certainly the journey that much faster and he noted that she seemed to have no problem fitting into his stride. Carlos' slow pace was often a pace thrice too fast for others to keep to and in return, he had a hard time fitting to such a slower pace. It often made one so used to routine, drills and quick paces fitted solely for marches all fidgety and restless, almost biting on heels. He knew others hated walking so slow and he was inclined to agree himself even if it was proper to go by the slowest or weakest pace.
The doors opened obediently for the pair of them as they turned into the archway and it seemed that the place was fortunate enough to not undergo another drowning of beer. The carpeting wasn't squidgy or anything like that but the place was uncharacteristically empty of people. There were the odd couple, none of them in obvious garb to make them as Fleeters.
"That's odd," he murmured, it was entirely implausible but not everybody was of a mindset to follow the rules when danger reared its ugly head. Especially on a station as large as this where numerous characters who were probably already on the wrong side of the law resided. Carlos knew that some didn't mind mingling in a safety zone but others aboard would have the same reasoning or mindset in that quarters or another public area such as the Pi.
"I would have thought more people would be here," he said though he moved to the counter leaving Yolanda to explore or look about however she so wished. He knew a second pair of eyes were useful and he was grateful for the company. Making new friends was always a good thing, so long as they remained that way. He looked behind the bar to see if anything was amiss. He couldn't see anything out openly out of the blue but giving the place a thorough inspection never hurt anyone.
Wouldn't be the first time he had done one of those either. Carlos did have a keen eye, it was better when he was younger but age was something no one could run from eventually, no matter how hard they tried. It had that effect on you, like a hound after a scent and he had only felt the nip of its jaws in recent years.
