Kealan yawned behind his hand as he took in all the reports from the various departments of the Talon. The ship was ready. Finally, finally ready. They had spent far too long at SGE for repairs, far too long undergoing yet another intense scrutiny from Starfleet Intelligence. No one was spared. From the janitor to himself, they were all grilled about Robin and Kinin's disappearance, about their loyalties, about any little thing that would cause Starfleet to pull them from the quadrant and send them packing to a garbage scow in an asteroid belt. To the crew's credit, most of them passed with flying colors.
Lieutenant Jenison had been heavily reprimanded, as had Commander Sur'Shess and others who had taken liberties with the rules. Kealan had gone to bat for them, and Starfleet had seen fit to allow just a note in their record, though they had hinted at transfers for all of them.
Good news followed, with a remote alpha quadrant outpost notifying Starfleet of the recovery of Lieutenant Star. He was in bad shape and remained in the quadrant for his medical care. Kealan hoped once he recovered that Starfleet would return him to the Talon, but the Captain was not about to try to guess their plans for him.
"All departments report ready, Sir."
He smiled and nodded. "Helm, take us out." They already had the planned heading, the planet Florix at the upper edge of sector one. The Florixians had gone silent, and the Talon was to investigate.
As the ship moved out of one of the station's bays, Kealan couldn't help but feel hopeful. The ship was repaired, the crew cleared of suspicion, and they were fully staffed once again. A new security chief was on board, Jenison was provisional assistant to him pending further evaluation of her skills before it could be made final, and the new XO was fitting in nicely. Maybe the curse of the Talon had ended. Not likely, but it was nice to hope.
Tapping on his console, he smiled as he typed out a message that he had been procrastinating far too long. Once finished, he paused, his finger above the 'send' button, just for a second, before hitting it with a flourish. "Let the chips fall where they may," he muttered.
