Her head had hit the desk for the umpteenth time. The nervous technician knew stuff like this happened on large ships. She read about it. The girl went to quite a bit of an extent to research about it and find out as much information about Halloween parties. There was so much to consider which top of the list was the costume, make up, shoes, mask or no mask, and many details that seem to endlessly go through her mind in an effort to try and prepare. Now the moment was here and the poor girl was ready to run for the hills or puke. Her attempt to get it together fortunately quelled her stomach with a few deep breaths. The Talon’s Halloween party on the holodeck was reputed to be a really good one. Perhaps it was to make up for all the turmoil the ship was put through recently.
When she had returned to the ship after working with Ensign Nivans on the viral video case, she had performed similar functions that the SGE Chief of Operations did and swept the whole ship for viruses, obscure data caches and several sweeps for the viral video to be on the safe side. She didn’t know what happened to the poor soul that was detained for the video. The nervous technician knew well enough to not ask. In her experience questions like these are best left unanswered. She submitted her reports to her Chief as required with her quiet efficiency. When intelligence started asking everyone about the issue of the two missing crewman, Caroline was as nervous as a hen with a fox in the hen house. Her time with intelligence on the matter was relatively short considering she had just joined the ship and to her complete relief, the anxious lady was cleared relatively quickly.
The red head was able to unpack, give her bonsai some much needed attention and set up her closed network of computers she used for starting research and development of circuit designs and programming designs. She could even perform stage one alpha simulations and testing with this rig. The intellect made sure she registered her credentials with engineering and science as she will need science labs and if engineering needed a hand with repairing computer hardware, the versatile girl was quite adept at it. The versatility comes with the specialty where a computer specialist spanned all three departments. While on a small ship like the Solstice, she was a computer specialist in Engineering. On the Talon, she ended up in Operations. The job could easily at some point place her in the Science department on another vessel for all the little lady knew. However they labeled it, Caroline just wanted to work with and on computers. The small Bushido shrine and her swords on wall racks completed her unpacking.
In the days before the repairs were finalized, Caroline worked her tail off as the computer core, databases, processors and sub-processors were restored to Federation specifications. There was a lot of speculation as to why the systems got so out of sync with each other. Caroline had her own theories. If a person was shaken for several seconds vigorously, what would happen? There would have been a lot of damage to the nerves and brain. That essentially was very similar to what the Talon had gone through and what Caroline spent a great deal of time in analysis of diagnostics to troubleshoot the deficiencies. After thirty billion sections of optics fibers and optic cables repairs were completed, the Talon’s systems and computer performance issues were now minimal to none. It wasn’t really thirty billion but it felt like it. Now she finds herself in a different pickle which was social engagements and dressing to the nines. ‘Why did I pick that dress?’ she put her face in those little palms.
The dress was a Spanish style dress with a modern twist. The dress was glittery, form fitting with a corseted middle, an open back and a ruffled neckline that revealed more than she really wanted. The skirt part of the dress flowed down the back to just above her calves in ruffled tiers with an open slit up one muscular thigh. There was the 5 inch high heels with black glittering sheer stockings with a back line clean up to her behind. The dress fit like a glove. ‘Is this too much? Grandma, why did you suggest that?’ She looked up to the sky and groans. ‘Why did I listen to her? ‘ She looked in the mirror where a very attractive red head stood vs the muted mouse from before. The last item she put on was a jade necklace her grandmother gave her. It went with the black fine even if it wasn’t with the Spanish theme. Jade was for beauty, grandma had said before and it might bring her some luck.
She looked at herself in the mirror again giving a final tweak to her hair. Her hair was done up with a decoration of lace and roses in her hair as she went over the dance moves and styles the little lady used to do in her head. It had been a while since she danced at all, so her hope is not to completely embarrass herself. ‘Caroline you went up against a Klingon in sword combat what the hell is there to be afraid of?’ Caroline stared back at herself ‘Everything, just everything. Who wants to have their heart ripped out again?’ she looked off to the side ‘it’s just a party Caroline, a Halloween party, where it’s just the ship’s crew. Come on this is a fresh start.’ She took a deep breath and gathered her courage. She was barely recognizable as she was dressed to the nines and walked in those high heels with very good balance out of her quarters and headed to the holodeck.
