Liz watched as her team took the process firmly into hand, trotting about at the behest of Lieutenant Bartlett more than she. That was just fine; Liz was used to taking a supervisory role these days, and it was why she’d been so insistent on keeping people like Bartlett around, despite the pull from other ships. They’d needed to cut down on staff, spread out their resources so they could get more ships in the air faster.
She’d let some go. Only some.
Final replication algorithms run, the entire crew present retreated behind the blast shields. Liz leaned against the control panel, eyes already running across the calculations and the careful calibrations that had been put in for automatic regulation. There was bound to be quite a bit of hands-on control needed though; Liz had seen that much from the projections, at least. There were a few excited—or, perhaps, worried—murmurs. She was going to take them as excited.
“Commander we are ready to commence replication of the compound. Does Science need to be here for this? “
“Not feeling confident in your skill, Lieutenant?” Liz asked, pushing herself upright and pulling up the command routines on the console in front of her. “We told Commander Rok an hour, and we’re pushing right up against it. Let’s see what we can make of it ourselves, shall we?” Looking over the calculations one last time, Liz took a deep breath, glanced at Caroline one last time, and nodded firmly. “Computer, activate level eight forcefield around the test area,” she said, bringing the further security enhancements online. With a barely-seen glimmer, the forcefield strengthened.
//"Rok to cargo bay two. We're good to go down here. Send us that fuel as soon as it's ready,"//
Liz didn't answer; if he were monitoring their progress reports--as she was sure he was, being Cobus--he'd know they were close, in any case. "Let's get this show on the road, people," Liz said, her hands moving across the console and triggering the initial replication phases. "Lieutenant Bartlett, give me a running summary of those differentials as you get them," she added. "Somebody else over there, tell me what our potential power draws are looking like," she added, referring to the secondary console. She could see enough of current power draw to know that the process was taking a toll on the immediate area, power trickling into the replicator for a moment before rushing in to fill the gap they knew was there, trying to ram through the strange compound.
Here came the tricky bit.
