When on Peleb, one shouldn't have a care in the world. It was a time where one should indulge in having a good time and perhaps even fulfilling a fantasy or two. However, such notions were far from the mind of Lt. Commander Henrietta Braddock as she stood there waiting. Instead of being bikini-clad on one of the planet's several beaches, she was at the coordinates they had received for the arrival of the Ga'rik Alahr.
As soon as it had become known that Doctor Sig Ericson was alive, the Federation had made every attempt to contact the Ga'rik Alahr, including going through the Pelebians to do so. When the opportunity for a diplomatic resolution had presented itself, Braddock had found herself dubbed with taking point of the mission. Of course, even Braddock felt that was more the result of circumstance than anything. They had barely left DS10, when the Talon had been recalled. And thus, Braddock and her team had been forced to take the Captain's Yacht, the Kestrel, to make the rendezvous on Peleb.
That wasn't to say that Braddock was going to take any chances. It may be a diplomatic mission, but Henri thought it best that the members of the team carry a side arm. The last time they let their guard down, the Ga'rik Alahr had abducted one of their own. Henri wasn't too keen to see something like that happen again. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and let out a slow sigh.
"Listen up, everyone," Braddock spoke up. "Remember, we're playing this by the book. No one goes off alone. Understood?" Henri knew that was easier said than done sometimes, yet she was hoping this time would be an exception to that rule. "Make no acts of aggression. If a situation develops, you follow my lead or Lieutenant Nivans'. Remember, we're still very much in the dark about the Ga'rik Alahr's tactical capabilities. And frankly, I'd prefer to avoid assessing them."
Henri knew the basis of this mission, and it was probably best to remind the team as well. "The goal here is to make diplomacy pay off. I want all of us to make it back home... including Doctor Ericson." That was the goal after all. To bring home one of their own. "And one more thing... watch where you step. Let's try not to bring home any more house guests."
With the speech now behind her, Henri turned her eyes towards the chronometer. Part of her wondered just how the Ga'rik Alahr valued the concept of time. Were they simply casual about punctuality, or were they strategically making them wait.
