"Oh no, don't bother yourself. My writing isn't going very well at the moment, anyway."
And with that Nathan relieved Coardi of any guilt of keeping him distracted.
"It's my turn to ask impertinent questions,"
Just like her mother would say, don't expect to receive if you're not willing to give and judging by the look on the historian's face he was looking to get something in return for her short interrogation.
"Tell me about your best adventure, Yeoman."
"Oh, I don't know if administrative staff are even allowed to have adventures Nathan," she began, taken slightly off guard by his question. She'd never been asked that before and it wasn't the kind of inquiry she had a prepared answer for. "Well, beside going through Starfleet Training." Honestly that was probably the most adequate answer but would it satisfy a citizen of the "excitement flagship"? Surely not.
There was the war but nothing that happened could be mistaken for the best, even the silver lining was tainted. It wasn't something that she wanted to think about at all. Those memories were locked away.
"I think, probably, my first posting as a personal yeoman to the Captain." The flood of fond memories gave her a new glow. "I was very nervous young girl with only textbook experience and he was very cranky old man prone to nit-picking. I think humans might say that he never spared a rod? Some people you can just tell that they joined Starfleet for the glory but he loved Starfleet and he loved being a captain however the man hated formal events and if ever there was a plus one then he would take me. I think it was to provide a buffer or to help network but the excuse was because I hadn't been many places except Bajor and Newport News. It was fun to dress up in gowns and put my hair up to go to all sorts of places I'd never be invited to otherwise. I was shattered when he retired. I loved him."
Coardi had enjoyed most of her other postings but nothing was quite the same as the first. If only there was a way to know you were in one of the best times of your life when you were living it so you could embrace it all the more.
"Not exactly something worth writing into the history books is it," she finished, eyes drifting to his PADD momentarily. Perhaps not but it had been her life and she liked it pretty well.
