Cobus had most of his spots out on display. He was dressed in a pair of short inseam blue swim trunks with a gauzy sarong tied around his hips. He could hardly remember the last time he'd felt the sun or a warm breeze on his bare chest. He'd forgotten how good it felt.
It seemed oddly fitting that the trip to Risa would come right on the heels of Eilidh's transfer. How many times had they talked about making this trip together? Now he was making it alone, and she was-- He tried not to think about where she was. It was surely nowhere good, nowhere safe, and thinking about it made him crazy.
Human women were lucky. Though the physical representation of bonding was in some ways, superfluous, there were moments like these, when the distance felt especially great, that he would have begged for some stupid, worthless stone on his finger, anything to make Eilidh not seem so far away.
"Do you seek jamaharon," a woman asked on approach, touching his arm and looking hopefully for the horga'hn she'd expected to find somewhere in his proximity. Perhaps this man was new to Risa and didn't understand their customs. He would learn quickly. They all did.
"No, actually. All that is mine-- it belongs to someone else," he explained, putting his hand on hers. "But I promise to still enjoy everything else Risa has to offer."
"And enjoy it, you will," she said with a knowing smile as she excused herself from the Trill's company and wandered off toward another guest.
Being alone and unavailable on the pleasure planet didn't have to be such a terrible thing. During his last visit, he felt like he'd hardly left his room. Risa had more to offer than jamaharon, and this was his big opportunity to actually see the planet.
Cobus thought he might take a floater out to the lagoon or the jungle later, but he didn't need to revisit the brochure to know the number one attraction on his list. Abandoning the sun for now, Cobus drained the last of his Risian Sunrise cocktail and ventured toward the tunnel entrance to the subterranean gardens.
The breeze that rose up from underground was unexpectedly warm and sweet, though not exactly atypical for Risa. It probably had something to due with the proximity of the hot springs, but Cobus preferred to believe that the warmth was emanating from the vibrant display of life that beckoned, glowing from just around the last bend in the tunnel.
