She should have been miserable. It wasn't really hot in the jungle, but it was extremely muggy. The air was filled with moisture. Her hair was drenched with sweat and her skin covered in a layer of perspiration. She was truly looking forward to taking a nice long soak in the steam pools when she got back. Though for now, she was too enthralled with her surroundings. A long breath slipped past her lips. The pace that she was moving through the jungle was quick, but the Science chief found it exhilarating.
As she reached a clearing, her eyes peered out at the small pride that littered the meadow. Yolanda smiled. "Beautiful," she said. She reached into her knapsack and pulled out a holographic imager. She made certain to keep her distance, but this sight was too glorious to simply ignore. Lying in the center of the meadow was a large feline with vibrant yellow fir. Yet, as a breeze rushed through the lush flora and struck the large cat's fir, it shifted to a pink hue and then a faint purple.
Yolanda recognized the creature instantly. A Risan Zephyr-Lynx. Yolanda was truly surprised to find them lurking about. According to the guide, it was nearing the end of their season. And they likely would be in hibernation for weeks. Still, she couldn't help but watch the young cubs tussle over one another... four of them, oblivious to the rest of the world around them. Yolanda shook her head. The sight was truly amazing. The only thing missing was the male. She surveyed the meadow, searching for some sign of him, but nothing stood out. Her brow furrowed. It wasn't common practice that they ventured far from the pride unless they were hunting.
Yolanda looked over her shoulder as she heard some rustling in the flora behind her. Her eyes widened slightly as she studied the approaching movement of flora as whatever was hidden in the foliage moved closer and closer. It was as if she stopped breathing, hoping that remaining quiet and still would make her invisible to whomever or whatever was approaching.
The foliage was so thick, that there didn't seem to be any clue about what was approaching. Not until one giant leaf was finally brushed aside finally revealing... nothing. Yolanda's brow narrowed. Was her imagination simply getting the best of her now? She turned to look back at the pride. She was certain that her heart had stopped and nearly leapt out of her chest when she realized that she wasn't alone.
