Nathan was seriously starting to regret ever agreeing to this. He had very clear memories of the rest of Risa--the beaches, the bars, the pristine rooms with sunny vistas from every window....
And here he was, trapped underground with two idiotic treasure-hunters or some such. It could have been worse, he supposed. He could've been stuck down here without Alyssa. Then again, if he weren't with Alyssa, he wouldn't have come down here. So there was that.
The two idiots argued back and forth, sniping at one another as if they were still on a playground somewhere. They were definitely on edge, which didn't make Nathan feel any better about having a phaser in his face.
"Do you know how long this is going to take?"
"As long as it takes, Sweetie."
Nathan didn't often feel the impulse to hit someone. He'd gone through life quite well without hitting very many people, after all, and if such a thing could be avoided with words and creative re-engineering of the truth, then he was all for it. This situation was testing that habit, however. He would have quite gladly hit this idiot, and his nincompoop brother, too.
"Can we sit down then? It was a long trek down here."
Garth nodded, jerking his phaser toward the ground. Thinking none too generous thoughts about what the man could do with his phaser, in a perfect world, Nathan sat down next to Alyssa, shrugging his pack off and letting it fall to the ground. He kept his eyes on Garth, watching the phaser closely.
"So what's your plan?" he asked softly. He knew she had one. Alyssa always had a plan, and they were usually better than his. Almost always better. Always. "I would like to warn you that if part of the plan involves me getting shot, I am not in."
