"I had considered taking an engineering extension course while at the Academy, to supplement my science studies. I now see it was a mistake not to have done."
Between the devilish grin and the flirty wink, Tegan was getting the message loud and clear. Now while she did not reject the idea, Tegan couldn’t just immediately accept it. The night was young, and playing hard-to-get was just too much of a favorite pastime for her.
Plus, there was too much alcohol in this place to ignore. Business before pleasure, right?
"And which side of the bed would that be?"
Tegan responded with Jo’s advance with a cheeky grin. “That’s for me to know, and others to find out.”
Jolarik’s expression seemed to change. She lost focus and looked as if she were about to fall hard to the floor. Tegan reached out to steady her new friend. “Jolarik, are you alRIIIGHT?!”
On instinct alone, Tegan grabbed onto Jo as she suddenly fell from her stool in a foolhardy attempt to help Jo . In hindsight, holding up the deadweight of a 57 kg half-Bajoran woman in her own state and position was an inevitable failure. Instead of rescuing Jo, Tegan fell with her, quickly finding herself on the floor next to her stunned friend.
She took a moment to nurse a bruised backside, and then looked towards Jo. They both seemed to process the embarrassing scenario they had just performed. Then Tegan giggled. Soon the giggle erupted into a laugh, and she just continued to laugh until her heart was soothed by the good feelings she was experiencing.
“Maybe we should just stay down here.”
