Like gears of a well-oiled machine, the Talon crew and the DS10 medical staff worked diligently towards the resolution of their present crisis. A few incidents were reported of crew members acting irrationally and refusing to be treated in lieu of their admittedly more enjoyable activities. But good sense prevailed, and though Alyssa knew that morale was going to take a powerful hit by recent events, she knew the crew would prevail as well.
Alyssa continued to work side-by-side with Star through the duration of the crisis and it's aftermath. She had no hesitation to admit that she enjoyed his presence as an officer. He was both clever and professional. It left her with no small degree of regret to know that a part of her, deep within the crevice of her heart that sheltered those unshakable seeds of doubt, still felt suspicion. Starfleet had flagged him as a potential threat, and though it seemed they had allowed that flag to fade away, she could not help but wonder if there was still a darker truth that he was hiding away. Would he follow in the footsteps of his lover? Could Alyssa afford to trust him as she had once trusted her?
It was a bizarre turnaround, then, when the news broke about the Talon’s transfer of personnel. Since the moment Kinin had returned, Alyssa had struggled to find the ability to trust her again. Her team had more or less accepted the Klingon back, which had left Alyssa in a bind. Her desire to build and maintain a cohesive team fought against her gut instinct to distrust Kinin. But, in the breath of a moment, Kinin was gone. Her own struggle ended, though at the cost of Robin’s heart.
Alyssa watched Star closely, wondering how he would take the news. She had seen the report of Kinin's transfer before he had, and she had been running an ongoing debate on if and when was the right time to tell him. One of the other officers decided to leave behind a sensitive touch and break it to the Flight Chief straight. Her heart reached out to him in response. She could only imagine how she would feel if Nathan were to leave the Talon.
Stepping closer, Alyssa raised a supportive tone. “Robin, listen,” She looked away wondering what would be the right thing to say. Was it even right to say anything given her personal history with Kinin.
“I know I’m not the first person to—“ She stopped when her eyes returned to Robin, or, rather, the absence of the man. She looked around calling out for him, only to find that he was not the only one absent. The Bridge was empty. She was alone. She looked back to Robin’s last position in stunned awe when she met Vrehu Coardi’s gaze.
“Crewman?!” Alyssa responded with surprise. “What are you—how did you--?”
"You have all been found guilty…”
As she had with Coardi, Alyssa felt a sudden shock at the sound of the voice. What was most peculiar about it was that the voice felt far less like one that sounded over the comm system and far more like the person was next to her, speaking to her as Coardi might. But no one else was present.
“…and have been placed in your final locations for your pathetic existence,"
Eyes wide, Alyssa reached for her phaser, and prepared herself for an ambush. But it never came. Only enmity.
"Out of respect for my Father, I will allow you to choose the manner of your death, which will be carried out by those sharing your location. Failure to comply will result in all those whom you love to perish. You have twenty-four hours."
Alyssa did not speak for a moment. She only processed. It was clear to her that Coardi also heard the message, so she felt a stronger degree of certainty that the threat she had just been issued had not been fabricated in her own mind. Which inevitably meant the danger was also real. She inhaled deeply, allowing the stress to pass through her whole body rather than bottle up in her head.
“One crisis after another on this ship.” Remembering that Coardi could hear her, Alyssa refocused her attention. “What did you hear? Was it a woman’s voice? Did she threaten you?”
