"For whoever on the Talon receives this, please make sure the Captain gets it. Captain, you may show this "sending" to whoever of your crew knew and loved my husband."
As she heard the voice, there was a slight sting, possibly because she recognized it instantly. A memorial ceremony for Sig would not be complete without Tiria having the final word. Even if she wasn't able to be here in purpose, she had the right to say goodbye along with the rest of the people that cared for Sig as well. Grace wiped some of the tears from her eyes as she listened to the portion of Sig's 'Sending' ceremony play out.
Shortly after the message began, Kealan had moved to stand alongside her, even wrapping his arm around her shoulder. Weeks ago, she didn't imagine that anything like this would happen, but she had learned a powerful lesson, especially after losing Sig. Time was precious and nothing was promised. Her arm rose to wrap around his lower back as she leaned into him. For a moment, she closed her eyes, embracing the comfort that came with his proximity.
Though even as Tiria said her final goodbyes, the sounds still wore heavily on Grace's consciousness. And then, she began to assume that perhaps she wasn't the only one that heard it. Had it really been Sig... somehow? Kealan seemed to detect something as well and moved back towards Robin, hoping that the pilot could shed some light on the budding mystery.
"Stop it, Grace."
Reluctantly, the nurse tore her eyes from the horizon to look back at Hunter. For just a moment, she had felt the burden of the pain lessen. Why couldn't he... if only for a moment? She wasn't upset with him. In fact, she thought he deserved to heal just as much as anyone. He'd lost so much in such a short span of time....
"Yingara... They heard us."
"No. As a Betazoid, you know that is not true."
Grace's eyes were now on T'Rai. It was a bit of a surprise, because up until now she had been merely an observer. On the bright side, she seemed to show a little promise as far as sea legs went. She began to speak as well, giving an oration that Grace hadn't expected. In some ways, her words were quite heartfelt... especially coming from a Vulcan. Though, there seemed to be even more surprises, as she took the time to reveal some of the items she had brought with her.
Grace was the first that she approached. She presented Grace with a package, that she chose to unwrap. What she found was an old leather-bound journal. The nurse studied the book heeding the words that followed from the Vulcan. She slowly lifted it's cover, and saw... writing. All handwritten and foreign to her. The content Flipping through, she eventually noticed and handwriting that appeared... familiar. This had belonged to Sig. She only skimmed a few words, but eventually noticed mention of her own name... several times before there was nothing but blank pages that followed.
"This is only yours for a short time. When you are done with it, return it to his widow."
Grace looked up from the book, nodding obediently. Her eyes returned to the item in her hand. She wanted to read it all... here and now, but she also dreaded the idea of finishing it all too quickly. Taking a deep breath, she closed the book for now, wrapping it, and then holding it close to her chest, even as T'Rai spoke again. The Vulcan's words, again... were quite empathetic. It was possible that it was merely Grace's imagination, but given the circumstances it seemed to be quite a feat for a Vulcan.
"They do not hear, they feel the sorrow."
Grace's eyes went back out to what she believed she saw in the water. There was a budding fascination with what lay out in the sea before her. Almost as if it were one last connection to Sig, that she could hold and cherish. She finally looked back at the Vulcan that stood next to her. "Thank you," the nurse uttered before moving to wrap the Vulcan into a tight embrace.
"Enough. Both of you! This isn't the time or the place for fantasy. I would think, Doctor, that you would know the danger of giving false hope!!"
Grace's eyes were now on Hunter. She couldn't believe that he was so belligerent here and now. Attacking T'Rai. "That's enough, Bill!" Grace said. She was shocked by her own voice... literally only ever hearing one person Talk to Hunter like that: Sig. She always asked herself 'what would Sig do?' She couldn't imagine her mentor doing anything differently in that moment. Of course, she still doubted she had any right to do so.
She had been just about to apologize when the sound of something in the water got her attention once more. Of course, that seemed to happen just as Hunter was about to continue his tirade.
"You should be ashamed of-"
What happened next was such a blur. She felt herself being pushed aside and watched as T'Rai suffered the same fate before Hunter leapt over the railing and into the water. Grace's eyes widened in horror as she rushed to the railing to see if her eyes could find him. "Oh my god!" she said as she peered into the dark waters. Looking over her shoulder towards Kealan and Robin, she was at a loss for what to do next. "Someone do something!"
Her eyes began to seek out anything on the ship they could use, assuming they got Hunter back on board. Towels? A blanket? The first-aid kit? She simply couldn't understand what had possessed him. One minute he was tearing into both Grace and T'Rai and the next he was like a man possessed, rushing without a single care into the waters below. One had to wonder if he'd seen a ghost.
