Whilst the Captain was talking to the others, Scott’s attention was distracted by the briefing room door opening to admit a member of the ship’s crew carrying a platter. Scott’s eyebrows rose, ‘what the…’ he thought to himself. ‘Memo to self – have the doors locked next time, we could’ve been talking about anything at all. A word later I think.’
"If there's nothing else, I'll hand the floor back to your capable hands,"
“Thank you Captain,” Scott said. He’d known about her offering the second officer’s job to Sig before she announced it to the assembled crew as she’d informed him on the walk up to the briefing room. “And may I be the first to offer my congratulations to you Commander.” Pushing the plates and cookies towards the middle of the table so anyone who wanted one could reach them. “Compliments of the chef apparently,” Scott told them. Scott straightened on the table but had no need to look down at it, the short contents of it already committed to his memory.
“For my part this meeting will be quite brief. I can’t promise that future meetings will be the same however,” Scott said smiling. “As I’m sure you’ll be aware we’re due to leave DS9 soon and as such I’d like to see duty rosters from you all for each of you departments within the next two days. I, by your leave Captain,” he said as he looked at Gwen, “intend to run the ship on a three shift rotation. Until further notice the shifts will be called Rho, Sigma and Tau.”
Scott looked about the assembled company, looking to see how they would react to the unusual naming of the shifts. “As a minimum I will require an operations officer and a tactical officer for duty on the bridge from you, Commanders Sur’Shess and Griffon,” Scott told them, looking at each in turn as he spoke. “I will also need the names of the duty doctor and nurse, duty engineer and the duty science officer for each shift. As for the remainder of your staff you are free to assign them however you see fit, subject to my oversight.”
Settling back in his chair, Scott took a quick draft from his coffee. “For now that concludes my agenda. I open the floor should any of you have anything that you wish to share or inform the senior staff of, now is the time to do it.”
