Vlad took long strides after getting off of the turbolift and headed toward Sickbay. Not a word had been heard since the pod had been delivered and he was worried. As the doors opened, he was greeted by utter chaos.
Medics were shouting, security officers looked rather peeved, and smack dab in the middle of it stood an enormous escape pod, still unopened.
"What's the delay," Vlad asked, none too happy about any of this.
"We need to make sure it's not armed."
"The patient is dying."
"We'll all die if it's going to explode."
"You'd think they wouldn't have transported it here if it was armed."
Vlad shook his head. It was going to be one of those days. Brushing past a security officer, he wiped condensation off of the small darkened window, much to the horror of the security team.
"Don't touch that!"
Vlad turned and raised an eyebrow.
"Um. Sir."
"Where's Nick?"
"On Etimon," a medic replied. "He's down there with- ow!" Another medic had poked him in the ribs.
Vlad stared at the two of them. "Right." He glanced back to the security officer. "Open the pod."
"But, sir..."
The Captain sighed. "You do know how much I love repeating myself, right?"
"Sorry, sir." The officer moved close to the pod. "Stand back." All twelve security officers who were crowding the room took a preparatory stance. Vlad tried not to laugh. Most of them were green, fresh out of the Academy. This was just supposed to be an easy mission. Haul a few dignitaries, engineers and equipment to the station. Good for training. He watched one of them recheck his phaser and change the setting slightly.
A hiss alerted Vlad that the seal on the pod door had been released. The security officer slid it back to reveal the very large Hirogen inside.
"How are we going to get him out?"
A medic jumped up on the pod and slid inside with the alien.
"Get out of there," the guard shouted. Vlad put a hand on his arm. "Give him a second."
"Vitals are still declining," the medic said. "Someone call Doctor Epstein.
"Already did," another shouted. "He's on his way. Maybe two minutes, max."
"That Hirogen better not wake up while that medic is practically standing on his chest," the guard said to Vlad.
