After attaching the belt around his waist, he clipped the modified tricorder to it and switched it on just seconds before the transporter beam grabbed him and deposited him on the surface.
Instead of the inside of a runabout, he was now greeted by an alien beach, which might have been beautiful under different circumstances. Fortunately they were alone. For now.
Just to be safe, he cranked up the amplitude on his device until it hummed audibly. The pulsing sound made him feel strangely soothed and anxious at the same time. He shifted it over to his right hip, far away from his genitalia where the vibrations might be distracting. He could already tell that it would get annoying very soon, but he didn't want any Salorri sneaking up on them. It was a small comfort that it would become even more effective once they got in the water.
"Ready? Lets try to get this done as quickly as possible, I've got a hot date tonight and we've got ten thousand people to save," he said, sounding strangely cavalier considering the circumstances. "Ziana all I want you to worry about is setting those charges. Diran and I will watch your back. Any questions?"
It was all pretty straight forward and would most likely go either very smoothly, or horribly, horribly wrong. While he didn't generally consider himself a leader, he was in senior officer mode now, and part of that meant not looking scared in front of the ensigns. It helped that he was stupidly excited to be getting his feet wet and going to see the generator.
What Ziana had said about luck was all too true. This little mission of theirs was somewhat insane if you took too long to think about it. They were very much outnumbered, and were diving into- well, really they had no idea how deep the generator was, how big it was, if it had any defenses, and the list just dizzies on from there.
It was possible that as they disrupted the Salorri either with his device, or by shutting down the generator, they might at least even the odds a bit; most people reacted poorly to being enslaved (obviously some of their people were already escaping), but that was the ideal situation, and it was his experience that things usually did not turn out ideal.
Yes, they were counting on a tremendous amount of luck. Keep your fingers crossed Talonites.
