Sig stepped through the doorway and stopped. "Captain," he nodded to Gwen. He moved over to an open station and pulled up the recent data, then replayed the message from the vessel.
"Our ship is a transport. Long distances, we travel in stasis. When we awoke, we were not at our destination. We do not know where we are. The crew... they... they are no longer with us."
What did that mean? Were they transported out? Had the ship been attacked? He pulled up a visual, but it was difficult to see anything from the data.
"We were only passengers, we do not understand this ship. It is all we can do to feed ourselves and live day to day. We do not know how to move the ship, how to find out where we are. Please, will you help us?"
They were probably malnourished, scared, and prone to anxiety. Not a good combination. He followed Gwen's eyes to Stetson. He knew that look. She had just either asked a question and was awaiting a reply, or she had just given an order and was waiting to see it carried out.
His eyes flitted carefully to Gillian. Her fingers were flying over her console and-- what was that? A flash of brilliance on her left hand! He fought back a smile for his new friend.
The science chief also had an expectant look on his face. Sig had had very little contact with the man thus far. Perhaps this would be a good time to observe him in action. He knew Gwen depended not only on her First Officer for crew impressions, but on her Second Officer as well. Sig hoped to live up to her trust in him. He still needed to send a comm to his family to tell them the good news of his promotion. He wondered if he should apologize to the Captain for having pulled Commander Hireen from the bridge. Seeing the situation first hand, he began to doubt whether his actions had been appropriate.
