“Um, actually, I think this ship has a cloaking device? Or at least there’s this sketchy looking button that says ‘Cloak’ on it. It’s fastened with some sort of cellotape…”
Was nothing on this ship in perfect condition? Hunter was amazed that Tazer hadn't blown himself up into tiny particles while traveling inside this piece of junk.
“Turn that on, let’s see how well it works.”
Hunter waited and he could tell that Nerio was full of anticipation as well. Both men leaned forward slightly, waiting for the word. When it came, both relaxed. They were cloaked.
“Between the asteroid belt and the cloak, it’s unlikely they could locate us without significant time and effort.”
"Surprise is on our side," Hunter agreed. "We need to do this before he figures out we're here." Emmarie hurried to collect their gear while Adya and Nerio hashed out the ethics of the plan.
“Would it work?”
"Colt's entire existence depends on remaining hidden. He would definitely be interested to know that someone could spot him while still cloaked, and he would most likely snap up the opportunity to gain a technological advantage." He turned toward Nerio. "Colt is a dangerous man. He won't bat an eye at murder."
"Maybe this is a bad idea," Adya said. "We cannot have our child if one of us is dead." She glanced over at the weapon locker. They already had what was necessary to open the vault. The only ones standing in their way were the two aliens in the room. However, she took one more look at the green woman, whose eyes were still reddened by pain and heartache. Adya knew that she couldn't live with herself if she were to deny this woman her child. She held up a hand, stopping Nerio who had just opened his mouth to reply. "Nevermind. Let's get started." Their eyes met and both knew the other was committed.
Nerio nodded. "Can you hail them," he asked Emmarie.
