"Siobhan O'Leary, engineer, Starbase Gamma Etimon."
Yolanda smiled politely as the girl introduced herself. She could detect a bit of an accent on the girl as well. If she recalled her Earth geography correctly, the accents that both Siobhan and Carlos shared were on the same continent. Siobhan's home was in the north western region of an island while Carlos' was embedded deep in the mainland and towards the east. She didn't add anything more just yet, giving Carlos the chance to introduce himself. She didn't want to speak for him, although it was tempting to determine what sort of conclusions were going through Siobhan's mind regarding the two of them. Besides, she wasn't even sure if the two of them knew one another. It was a big station, and while there was no reason that they should know each other given the size of the station, there was no reason they shouldn't.
"So how new are you to the Talon?", she asked. "Are just transferring now?"
"Oh, I'm about as new as they come," said Yolanda. That probably wasn't entirely true. She wasn't a bubbly ensign so fresh out of the academy with deep creases in her uniform and able to recite regulations on conduct verbatim. No, those days were long gone, and Yolanda would thank whatever god she could find that she didn't have to relive those times. "This is my first assignment in the Gamma Quadrant, and I haven't even set foot on the Talon yet. So, I guess you can see this is an authentically new experience for me. New ship... new crew... new captain...." Yolanda allowed her voice to trail off. "Well, mostly new. I mean if you do this dance enough times, some of it starts to get familiar. What about you? Is SGE your first posting here in the Gamma Quadrant?"
